Sunday’s qualifying session in the ADAC GT Masters saw yesterday’s winner David Schumacher (Salzburg/Haupt Racing Team) pick up where he left off. The 22-year-old set a new lap record to secure pole position and put himself in the best possible position going into the milestone race at the Nürburgring. “The win on Saturday has given me another real boost. The track conditions were extremely good, which is why the times were much better than in the first qualifying session. I am thrilled to have secured pole for the 250th ADAC GT Masters race. We now want to win the big race,” said Schumacher, who shares a Mercedes-AMG GT3 with last year’s champion Salman Owega.
The drivers in the ADAC GT Masters were greeted by sunny conditions and temperatures around 16 degrees Celsius as they took to the Nürburgring for their second qualifying session. As usual, the start of the session was largely used as a warm-up phase, to get the Pirelli tyres into the optimal working window on the 3.629-kilometre track. Mercedes-AMG drivers Jannes Fittje (Langenhain) and Schumacher did a particularly good job of this, both breaking the qualifying record set on Saturday. Schumacher topped the timing sheet with a lap of 1:24.902 minutes, which was 0.317 seconds faster than the record time set just 24 hours earlier. Fittje will start the race from second place on the grid. The Mercedes-AMG of Elias Seppänen (FIN/Landgraf Motorsport) completed the top three. Fourth place went to Switzerland’s Alain Valente in the Ferrari 296 GT3 of Emil Frey Racing, ahead of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2 of Simon Connor Primm (Großschirma/Paul Motorsport).
The 250th race in the history of the ADAC GT Masters gets underway at 15:10 and promises to be an entertaining affair. After the successful premiere of the endurance race on Saturday, the milestone race takes the form of a 40-minute sprint for the first time. Excitement is guaranteed, as the drivers have less time than usual to make their moves. Live coverage starts at 15:00 on television partner Sport1. Sunday’s race will also be streamed live on the free ADAC Motorsport YouTube channel.
