Schumacher takes pole position in the ADAC GT Masters

David Schumacher (Salzburg) claimed his first pole position in the ADAC GT Masters with a slender advantage of 0.031 seconds over second-placed Tom Kalender (Hamm/Sieg). “A great result. I obviously want to back that up with my first victory now. I have another two Mercedes-AMG GT3 behind me on the grid. It could not have gone better,” said the pole-sitter after the second ADAC GT Masters qualifying session at Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. The 22-year-old, who starts alongside Salman Owega for Haupt Racing Team, came out on top after an enthralling battle with fellow Mercedes-AMG driver Kalender from Landgraf Motorsport. Finn Wiebelhaus (Obertshausen/Haupt Racing Team) qualified third to complete a one-two-three for Mercedes-AMG.

The pursuit of the second pole position of the season began under blue skies and with temperatures around 15 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The two FK Performance BMW M4 GT3 initially set the fastest times. As the session progressed, the track became busier and the battel for the top positions heated up. At the end of the 20-minute session, qualifying debutant Schumacher put his Mercedes-AMG GT3 on pole position with a time of 1:22.868 minutes, edging out fellow Mercedes-AMG men Kalender and Wiebelhaus. Fourth place went to Chilean Benjamin Hites in a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2 for Grasser Racing Team. Jean-Luc D´Auria (CH) completed the top five in the Emil Frey Racing Ferrari 296 GT3.
