Fans turning up for the final weekend of the 2013 ADAC MX Masters could not have wished for a more thrilling grand finale at Holzgerlingen. It was not until the result of the last race of 16 that the outcome of the 2013 campaign was decided as Dennis Ullrich (KTM Sarholz Racing Team) from Saarlouis became the new champion in the ADAC MX Masters class (official title of the competition: Internationale Deutsche Motocross Meisterschaft). On the Schützenbühlring motocross circuit 20 kilometres south-west of Stuttgart, it was the 20-year-old who secured the decisive points. "That was absolutely crazy," said a jubilant Ullrich on the podium. "The final race was like a shot of pure adrenaline. Taking this title is a dream come true." Runner-up in the class was Sébastien Pourcel (FRA, KTM Sarholz Racing Team) ahead of Max Nagl (GER, KMP Honda Racing Team); a significant factor in Nagl's third-place finish to the season was a prolonged lay-off due to illness. The final race weekend at Holzgerlingen pulled in 12,300 spectators.
Going into the final moto, Pourcel and Ullrich were tied on 230 points, as Pourcel had failed to score in Round 15 after dropping out with a fractured wheel hub. Ullrich was quickest off the mark and grabbed the holeshot but then came off his bike while in the lead. That meant he had to work his way painstakingly back up the field from P32 to finish eleventh. But in the final race, Ullrich immediately positioned himself at the head of the 40-strong field. During the course of the 30-minute moto, Pourcel doggedly closed the gap to within a few metres. The track commentator became increasingly breathless and the fans were punching the air as Ullrich rode the race of his life. "Under my helmet, I could hear the fans shouting. It was a fantastic sensation." The final result elevated Ullrich to 255 points ahead of Pourcel on 252 and Nagl on 233. In the circumstances, Nagl's overall victory on Sunday was somewhat overshadowed, but with one week to go before his appearance in the world championship at Teutschenthal, he showed that he is back to peak form after his recent absence.
ADAC MX Youngster Cup
The overall winner on Sunday in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup for the 14 to 21-year-old bracket was Boris Maillard (Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil) ahead of Jorge Zaragoza (ESP, Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe) and Sulivan Jaulin (FRA, Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil). This was enough to secure the title for the French youngster: "It all went perfectly for me. I've got the title. Simply fabulous!" The 20-year-old had brought along his parents Jean-François and Claudie, from their home town of Gignac to urge him on: "They have always given me such terrific support. Now we're going to celebrate this moment together." Mallard ends the season on 277 points ahead of Dominique Thury (219) and Sulivan Jaulin (207). Someone else with good reason to feel satisfied was Harald Pfeil, because the Top Three all ride for his Thuringia-based outfit.
ADAC MX Junior Cup
It was not until the last race that 14-year-old Glen Meier (Kosak Racing Team, KTM) was able to wrap up the title, because his closest pursuers - Jakub Teresak (CZE, Mefo Sport Racing Team, KTM) and Kim Savaste (FIN, KTM Motorsport Finland) - were also very strong on the clay surface. Savaste was Sunday's overall winner ahead of Meier and Teresak, but the Danish junior's points lead was sufficient to see him through: "I kept pushing right up to the last metre, and now I'm the happiest person in the whole world. This title means such a lot to me - I'll be giving the trophy pride of place next to my bed." The final championship table shows Meier on 249 points ahead of Teresak on 231 and Savaste on 225.
