ADAC MX Masters·21.8.2013

Interview with Carsten Haufe: ADAC MX Masters as springboard

What do you find most inspiring about motocross?

Carsten Haufe: I think that our involvement in motocross is really fantastic. It´s far greater, of course, than in road racing. There are more opportunities in motocross to market the brand and to draw attention to ourselves. The athlete is simply more important than the technology. Every rider has to battle hard for victory, has to turn in a really first-rate performance. And that also means too that he must know his machine inside out and have complete mastery of it, which constitutes an amazing challenge in my opinion.

What do you appreciate most about the ADAC MX Masters?

Carsten Haufe: The ADAC MX Masters has successfully established itself as a top motocross series. The way things are managed and the manner in which the whole sport both in the paddock and on the track is presented is incredibly professional and well organised. In addition, the ADAC MX Masters is a springboard to other championships and series.

What are Kawasaki seeking to achieve through involvement in the ADAC MX Masters?

Carsten Haufe: The ADAC MX Masters is a top series, so obviously, it´s important that we do well here. I think I´m not exaggerating when I say that Kawasaki are now a guarantee of success, both in top-class sport as well as at grassroots level. And so, we have introduced the Kawasaki Team Green Trophy which each year carries prize money of 20,000 euros for one of our club riders. Our aim is to motivate and support our riders.

Have you personally ever taken part in motocross?

I myself only ride for fun but have taken part in endurance racing for many years now, so motor racing is not exactly alien to me.

How would you like to see motocross develop in future?

Carsten Haufe: It´s a great pity that motocross has never become properly established in Germany and that the riders´ athletic performance is not properly recognised. After all, they too must maintain a high degree of endurance, strength, coordination and concentration. I would hope that the sport´s profile can improve significantly at some point in the future and attract more media interest. Unfortunately, it is still very difficult for teams to find sponsors to enable them to actively and intensively pursue the sport of motocross.
