Aichwald: Fans attending the Saturday session of the ADAC MX Masters at Aichwald saw some exciting qualifying action in bright sunshine. 25-year-old World Championship rider Max Nagl (KMP Honda Racing Team) had a mechanical problem with his brakes and had to retire after only five laps of the 1,755-metre course near Stuttgart, leaving him down in P4. "Fortunately, starting position is not critical at Aichwald," said Nagl. "I´m still aiming for two wins on Sunday." The championship leader, who comes from Weilheim in Bavaria, can expect tough competition from the French duo of Grégory Aranda and Dylan Ferrandis (both Sturm Racing Team). Aranda claimed pole position with a time of 2:02.971 minutes on his final lap, relegating team-mate Ferrandis to P2. "This is my first weekend in the ADAC MX Masters," said Aranda. "I´m thrilled by the standard of competition here. Max Nagl is in great form at the moment. He´s the one I have to watch out for in the race on Sunday."
In the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, 20-year-old Frenchman Sulivan Jaulin (Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf) prevailed over local hero Lars Reuther (KTM Sarholz Racing Team) from Pleidelsheim which is just 40 kilometres from Aichwald. Third place went to Thomas Kjer Olsen from Denmark. "Unfortunately, I was laid low by a virus after the race in Reutlingen, which has knocked back my training programme," said 20-year old Reuther who would very much like to build on his double victory at Reutlingen. "There are plenty of good places at the starting gate. I´ll start from somewhere near the middle, which should help on the first corner," explained fourth-placed Thury from Bad Schlema in Saxony, who sees himself as a contender for the winner´s trophy on Sunday. Also putting in an impressive performance was ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Stefan Ekerold (KTM Kosak Racing), who fought his way into the main field via the last chance race after missing out on the competition five weeks previously due to injury.
Qualifying in the ADAC MX Junior Cup (for riders aged ten to 15) was dominated by Glen Meier (Kosak Racing Team) from Denmark. Second and third fastest in Saturday´s heats were 13-year-old Finnish rider Kim Savaste (KTM Motorsport Finland) and Czech rider Jakub Teresak (Mefo Sport Racing Team). The current championship leader, Jorge Prado (KTM Factory Red Bull) from Spain, starts tomorrow´s race from fourth.
