Mud battle at ADAC MX Masters: ADAC MX Masters: World championship contender Nagl crashes out, Pourcel winner on the day

Slippery clay, huge puddles and fast motorbikes – all the right ingredients were there for an exciting motocross weekend in Reutlingen. In the ADAC MX Masters, Frenchman Sébastien Pourcel (KTM Sarholz Racing Team) took victory on the day from Saarlouis-based team-mate Dennis Ullrich and from the Slovenian Tim Gajser (Marchetti Racing). 28-year-old Pourcel was delighted with second place in the first race and victory in the second race. "I´m really happy to secure so many points and win victory on the day. However, conditions out on track were awful." The second event still had 26 out of 30 minutes to run, but race stewards decided to abandon the race for safety reasons due to the adverse conditions.

Again and again during the weekend, heavy rain showers turned what was once a hard clay track into a muddy quagmire, as some 5,000 spectators did their best to keep dry. In the first race of the ADAC MX Masters class (International German Motocross Championship), Max Nagl (KMP Honda Racing Team) defied the weather and took the chequered flag first, consigning Pourcel and Gajser to second and third place respectively. The second race began with a good start for Nagl, catapulting him into the lead. However, the world championship rider crashed his machine a short time later and was ultimately placed eighth. After two of eight events in the ADAC MX Masters, former world championship runner-up Nagl leads with 88 points in the overall standings. Seven-time French champion Pourcel is in second place (76 points), followed by former ADAC MX Youngster champion Ullrich (64 points).

ADAC MX Youngster Cup

German rider Lars Reuther (KTM Sarholz Racing Team) from Pleidelsheim in Baden-Württemberg was highly delighted with his brilliant weekend in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. He won two races and secured victory on the day in Reutlingen. "It was a really hard slog out on track. You only see conditions like this once a year, thankfully. I had water inside my full face visor and problems seeing. I´m now really happy with my double victory, though," said Reuther. After the second ADAC MX Masters race weekend, Belgian rider Brent van Doninck (KTM Scott Racing) leads with 89 points in the standings from Reuther, who is only one point behind him. Frenchman Sullivan Jaulin (Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil) is in third place with 60 points.

ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Stefan Ekerold (17 years, KTM Kosack Racing) turned in an impressive performance. The 17-year-old qualified for the main event via the Last Chance race but rode to third place in the first race. In the second race, Henry Jacobi (KTM Sarholz Racing) from Bad Sulza beat off strong competition to secure fourth place.

Local competitor Kai Haase, who rides for the club hosting the event, 1. RMC (1. Rad- und Motorsportclub Reutlingen e.V.), finished the second ADAC MX Masters race in an impressive 23rd place. Despite the vagaries of the weather, the RMC rider kept a cool head and can look back on a successful event.

The next ADAC MX Masters race weekend takes place from 22nd to 23rd June at Aichwald in Baden-Württemberg with the following classes: ADAC MX Masters, ADAC MX Youngster Cup and ADAC MX Junior Cup.
