With many spectacular jumps, good grip on the surface, the sun shining and temperatures reaching 19 degrees, conditions were perfect for the ADAC MX Masters qualifying session in Jauer on Saturday. Max Nagl from the KMP Honda Racing Team could be particularly happy with his successful comeback on the hardpack surface. The 26-year-old took to the technically demanding track in convincing style, recording a fastest time of 1:48:798 minutes. "It felt good to be riding again after having to sit out due to illness, "said the Honda rider. "I've noticed that I can pick up from where I've left off in terms of my performance. Therefore, I was able to find my rhythm quickly and am looking ahead confidently to the race on Sunday." It is improbable that Nagl will be able to win this season's ADAC MX Masters. This is because his competitors Dennis Ullrich (KTM Sarholz Racing Team) and Frenchman Sébastien Pourcel (KTM Sarholz Racing Team) are too far ahead of him in the standings. "But I'm still hoping to take third place," added Nagl. "In view of the fact that I couldn't compete in three events, that would be some consolation for me."
25-year-old Czech rider Filip Neugebauer of Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil was second-fastest in qualifying, finishing ahead of the Frenchman Grégory Aranda (Sturm Racing Team, Kawasaki).
ADAC MX Youngster Cup
Just as he did in Gaildorf, Spaniard Jorge Zaragoza (Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe) finished the ADAC MX Youngster Cup qualifying session amongst the top riders. With a time of 1:50.528, the fastest in his class, the 17-year-old was one second quicker than his French rival Boris Maillard of Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfei. "Jauer is my favourite place to ride in Germany," said the Valencia-born rider. "I get a real kick from the many opportunities to jump here - it is so much fun." It does not seem to worry him that Maillard will be starting from second place on Sunday. Though wanting to do everything he can to stay top of the leaderboard, the 20-year-old does not let mental stress get the better of him: "I'm not thinking about the final next week yet - it would hold me back otherwise," he explained shortly after qualifying. Germany's Stefan Ekerold (KTM Kosak Racing) will be starting from third on Sunday. The ADAC Sports Foundation currently supports the 17-year-old.
ADAC MX Junior Cup
Glen Meier (Kosak Racing Team, KTM) retains his status as the hot favourite from the ADAC MX Junior Cup's best riders. The Dane, who goes to a sports school that supports motocross, was fastest in qualifying ahead of Spain's Jorge Prado and Finnish rider Kim Savaste (KTM Motorsport Finland). "Here in Jauer, I can show everyone what I can do," said the current leader in the overall standings. "I'm feeling good on this surface. I have to see to it that I get off to a quick start in the race, so that I can be amongst the top three again." Second-placed Jorge Prado also believes that the first few seconds of a race are the most important. This is his assessment on how he will perform on Sunday: "I think I'll be able to win on this great track. Yet, that all depends on how well I acquit myself right from the start."
