Munich – The tenth season of the ADAC MX Masters kicks off in just over four weeks´ time, and it´s got the lot. Europe´s most popular motocross series will be celebrating its tenth anniversary which is shaping up to be particularly exciting. After last year´s extremely close battle for the title between champion Dennis Ullrich from Saarlouis and Frenchman Sebastien Pourcel (both KTM Sarholz Racing Team), motorcycling fans can look forward to a thrilling rematch. However, the ADAC MX Masters champion, known simply as ‘Ulle´ to everyone in the trials riding fraternity, will not only have to prevail against his French team-mates but will be up against the rest of the field as well in the hunt for the title.
Apart from Ullrich, championship contenders in 2014 include Marcus Schiffer (Team Suzuki Waldmann), who claimed the top rung of the ADAC MX Masters podium in 2007 and 2011 and intends to prove himself again after his enforced injury-related retirement injury last year. Suzuki works rider Jeremy Seewer from Switzerland, team-mate Glenn Coldenhoff from the Netherlands (both Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe) and MX3 world champion Matthias Walkner (AUT/KTM) plus Pascal Rauchenecker (AUT/HSV Ried/Cofain Racing KTM) could also be a threat to the reigning champion. Riders like Dominique Thury from Bad Schlema (Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil), who narrowly missed securing the ADAC MX Youngster Cup title last year, and ADAC MX Youngster Cup winner Boris Maillard (FRA/Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil) will be completely new to the Masters class. The 21-year-old German and the young Frenchman (21) have gained a lot of confidence thanks to their excellent results and aim to mix it with the front-runners this season in the ADAC MX Masters.
It´s all change too in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup and in the ADAC MX Junior Cup. ADAC MX Junior Cup champion Glen Meier (KTM Kosak Racing) from Denmark will be contesting the ADAC MX Youngster Cup as from this year. Despite tougher conditions in the higher class, the brilliant young Scandinavian from the small Danish town of Trige will not allow himself to be intimidated. His goal for this season: To stay on course for the title, because he really likes that sweet smell of success. Spaniard Jorge Zaragoza (Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil) will be one of his most formidable rivals. Nico Koch (Kalli Racing KTM) also wants to prove himself as one of the young guns in the ADAC MX Junior Cup and show that he thoroughly deserves his place in the ADAC MX Masters series. After training so hard over the winter, there is only one option for the Braunschweig-based rider – a top-five finish in the ADAC MX Junior Cup at the very least.
The finale of the 2014 racing series will take not take place in Holzgerlingen, Baden-Württemberg this year but in Teutschenthal, Sachsen-Anhalt, at the valley basin track where last September 2013 teams from more than 40 countries went head-to-head in the MX of Nations, the sport´s official motocross world team championship. Around 85,000 visitors were in attendance during the weekend to cheer on the international field of MX stars.
