The ADAC MX Masters embarks on its anniversary season this coming weekend. At the opening event in Fürstlich Drehna on the weekend of April 26th-27th, more than 250 riders from over 25 different countries will go up against each other, all of them eager to assert themselves right from the start and leave the competition trailing in their wake in the first few metres. However, the races at the 1.65 km Rund um den Mühlberg track will not be easy, as the deep sand that makes up the surface will pose a major challenge for many riders.
In the Masters class, ADAC MX Masters champion Dennis Ullrich must try especially hard to begin the season well because he will have a hard time defending his title in 2014. After suffering defeat shortly just before the finish in Holzgerlingen last year, his team-mate and championship runner-up Sébastien Pourcel from France (both KTM Sarholz Racing Team) will have only one goal in all of this year's racing events, to get his revenge. After taking part in the French Championship in the run-up, Seb is now familiar with local conditions at the track and intends to finish on the top rung of the podium in September at the finale in Teutschenthal. Riders including Gregory Aranda (FRA/Sturm Racing Team), Marcus Schiffer (Team Suzuki Waldmann), Jeremy Seewer (CH/Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe) and Filip Neugebauer (CZ/Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil) all share that particular dream. And so, it will be exciting to see who can score points on the very first race weekend and thus secure a lead in the rankings.
In the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, local boy Nico Adler (Kalli-Racing, KTM) is also most keen to assert himself in Fürstlich Drehna. The 15-year-old knows the track south of Berlin inside out and would like to utilise this particular home advantage to the full. However, the field of riders in class two is also of high calibre. There are several motocross riders in the line-up, who are all desperate to be among the front-runners - ADAC MX Junior Cup champion Glen Meier (KTM Kosak Racing), junior vice-champion Jakub Teresak (CZ/Mefo Sport Racing Team Germany ), Spaniard Jorge Zaragoza (Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil) plus young rider and ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Brian Hsu ( Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe)
Top starters in the ADAC MX Junior Cup in Fürstlich Drehna include the Finn Kim Savaste (KTM Red Bull Factory), who finished third in the standings in 2013, plus the two ADAC Sports Foundation protégés, Nico Koch from Braunschweig (Kalli-Racing, KTM) and Jeremy Sydow from Chemnitz (ADAC Sachsen). The Finn proved several times last season that he is a candidate for the podium and intends to go all-out right from the start at the Rund um den Mühlberg track.
This Easter weekend, the ADAC organised some preparatory sessions for the ADAC MX Masters series that consisted of a three-day training course for 15 ADAC MX Youngster Cup riders and 15 ADAC MX Junior Cup riders in Teutschenthal. It was the job of the two coaches, former ADAC MX Masters rider and current Enduro pro Dennis Schröter and ADAC MX Academy chief coach Bernd Eckenbach to help their charges mainly to improve their riding technique and give them tips on fitness training.
Highlights from the first ADAC MX Masters event will be broadcast one week after race Sunday on May 4th at 5pm on Motorvision TV. Following each race this season, the TV station that can be received on SKY in Germany and Austria and on Tele Club in Switzerland, will carry reports from Europe's most popular motocross racing series in a half-hour magazine programme.
