ADAC MX Masters·2.7.2014

MXoN - Team Germany on course for success : Simply indescribable

2012 was a terrific year for Ken Roczen, Marcus Schiffer and Max Nagl. Together, the three MX stars finished on the top rung of the podium at the Motocross of Nations in Lommel, Belgium, bringing the world championship home to Germany for the first time since its inception in 1947 - a feeling that two-time ADAC MX Masters winner Marcus Schiffer in particular still remembers to this day: "It was just incredible. No German motocross rider before us had ever achieved such a feat, so we couldn´t quite take it in at first. Ultimately, we were just a very strong trio of riders, who accomplished great things together," said the 26-year-old. However, Schiffer had already racked up a number of successes previously as a lone wolf. That same year, 2012, he was crowned ADAC MX Masters champion for the second time and also finished on the top rung of the podium at the Open DM. He took his maiden win in the Masters in 2007, after having secured the German championship in the 125cc class two years previously.

Max Nagl´s motocross career path is similar to Schiffer´s with two wins to his name so far in the ADAC MX Masters. Also, the 26-year-old has clinched four grand prix victories and achieved a further 18 world championship race wins. The Bavarian won the International German Motocross Championship in the years 2004, 2006 and 2008. A year later, Nagl was runner-up in the MX1 Motocross World Championship.

Ken Roczen is the most successful German rider to date in the MX of Nations. He lifted his first world title before the age of 18 and is the youngest motocross world champion of all time. Since taking his first championship, the talented rider from Germany´s east has proved unstoppable and was again crowned world champion in 2011, this time in the MX2 class. In addition to success with Team Germany, ‘Kenny´ as he is known in the motocross scene, also finished as MX2 champion in the 2012 MXoN, which then led to a move to America to pursue his career as a professional motocross rider more intensively, a step that the 20-year-old still does not regret. In 2013, he again won the MX2 championship at the Motocross of Nations, also secured victory in the 250 West Coast MX Championship and finished as runner-up in the 250 MX series. Roczen began riding a KTM 450 cc machine in 2013, achieving success straightaway with the larger motorcycle. By now living in American, he took first place on the podium at Anaheim in the inaugural 450 Supercross Championship and finished third best overall in the series.

In 2013, Max Nagl and Ken Roczen then joined the Team Germany line-up with current ADAC MX Masters champion Dennis Ullrich. However, the three guys were not as successful in the Motocross of Nations at Teutschenthal as they had been in the previous year. The three of them placed seventh in the overall standings. But new team member ‘Ulle´ too has already had a number of professional motocross career highlights and top rankings to celebrate. A year before winning the ADAC MX Masters title, the world championship rider became German champion in the MX2 class. In 2008, Ullrich clinched the title of German Champion in the 85 cc class.
