The Slovenian Tim Gajser (Honda Gariboldi) won through against strong international competition in the ADAC MX Masters in qualifying. The races at the In den Horben 1,755-metre motocross track on Saturday were dominated by world championship rider (MX2) and guest starter Gajser. "That was an exciting qualifying, because I didn't post the fastest time until the last lap," said the 18-year-old. The organising club, MSC Eiserne Hand, is staging the fourth race meeting of the popular motocross series this weekend.
"I heard the track commentator announce that I was behind Delince. From that moment on, pushing was what was needed. But that's easier said than done. The competition from the other world championship riders in the field is very strong, but that doesn't bother me," said the current world championship runner-up Gajser. He continued: "I won at Aichwald in the ADAC MX Junior Cup back in 2009. Now it's time to do it again." Gajser consigned Dutchman and championship leader Glenn Coldenhoff (24/Team Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe) to second place on the grid on the natural grass track. Jeremy Delince (24/KMP Honda Repsol Racing Team) from Belgium secured third place in qualifying.
ADAC MX Youngster Cup
German entrants dominated the front of the field in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. Stefan Ekerold (Bodo Schmidt Motorsports/KTM) from Weiskirchen took the top spot in the quali, achieving his first pole position of the season at the same time. "I felt so good on the track that I feel very confident about lining up in the race on Sunday. Most of all, I aim to finish the races on the top rung of the podium," said 19-year old Ekerold, setting out his ambitions. Championship leader Brian Hsu (17/Team Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe), who was born in Freiburg can pick second place at the starting gate. Third fastest time went to Gianluca Ecca from Alpen (18/Team Castrol Power1 Suzuki Moto-Base).
ADAC MX Junior Cup
Defending champion Mikkel Haarup (Cossack KTM team) won the battle to achieve the fastest lap time in the ADAC MX Junior Cup. Consequently, the Dane retains his status of favourite among the youngest drivers. "I'm fast on my machine and the characteristics of the terrain here really suit me. As the current championship leader, I will do everything I can to get a little closer to my next title," said the 13-year-old after qualifying. Jeremy Sydow (15/Falcon Motorsports/KTM) from Chemnitz was the best German rider: "I found some good ruts and am satisfied with second place. I aim to attack in the race" Third place went to Bastian Boegh Damm (13/Stabilo Kawasaki MX team) from Denmark.
Motocross of Nations
The Motocross of Nations nominees and team principal Hubert Nagl attended a press conference with media representatives after the qualification heats to answer questions and pose for photos. Several top riders who line up in the ADAC MX Masters - Dennis Ullrich, Henry Jacobi, Angus Heidecke, Brian Hsu and Max Nagl, who had to miss Aichwald due to injury - are in the German squad. Ken Roczen is also a member of Team Germany.
