Season opener in Fürstlich Drehna: Dennis Ullrich aiming to defend Masters title

Exciting races, full starting fields and an attractive support programme – this coming weekend marks the start of the eleventh ADAC MX Masters season in Fürstlich Drehna. Riders will be fighting for the first vital points in the rankings at the opening of Europe´s most popular motocross series on the weekend of April 11th/12th. The well-established 1,650-metre circuit is not just a challenge for teenagers contesting the ADAC MX Youngster Cup and the ADAC MX Junior Cup but is also a real test of skill for experienced motocross riders. The sandy sub-soil will stretch the fitness and skill of some 240 riders.

Germany´s currently most successful world championship rider, Max Nagl (27/Hohenpeissenberg), will ride at the event. Reigning champion Dennis Ullrich (21/Saarlouis) will also be at the starting gate to defend his title. Nagl has joined a new team, Husqvarna, for 2015, while Ullrich will line up with Castrol Power 1 Suzuki Moto-Base during the upcoming ADAC MX Masters season. "It´s great to be contesting the first round of the ADAC MX Masters in Fürstlich Drehna. I´m looking forward to the fans in Germany after three grands prix overseas. The Rund um den Mühlberg track is new to me. Racing is in the opposite direction to last year – I´m very excited," said Nagl, full of pre-race anticipation.

Spectators can also look forward to seeing Austrian Pascal Rauchenecker (21) and Swiss rider Jeremy Seewer (20) compete at the challenging circuit. The pair took top rankings last year. MSC Fürstlich Drehna rider Christian Brockel intends to assert himself on the home turf of his club, who are running the event. The 31-year-old aims to use a home advantage at the track situated between Berlin and Dresden. "I cut my teeth on sandy soil and so, the Fürstlich Drehna track really suits me. My goal this year is to finish higher up the field than previously," said Brockel.

ADAC MX Youngster Cup

Arminas Jasikonis (17) from Lithuania and Poland´s Tomasz Wysocki (21) head to Fürstlich Drehna with an excellent chance of success. Jasikonis was third last year, while Wysocki finished sixth in the daily standings. This season, their closest competitors are older than the maximum age limit of 21 years for this class and are now in the main ADAC MX Masters field. They will, however, still have to watch out for German-Taiwanese rider Brian Hsu, who is sponsored by the ADAC Sports Foundation and was 2014 World and European champion in the 125cc class. The 16-year-old does not particularly like sand but actually won the title on the granular sub-soil.

ADAC MX Junior Cup

Current ADAC MX Junior Cup champion Mikkel Haarup (13) is undoubtedly one of the top runners in the class for the youngest ADAC MX Masters riders. After showing several times last season that he is a prime candidate for the podium, the Danish rider is aiming to secure some really decent points during this first weekend. ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Jeremy Sydow (14/Chemnitz), who finished runner-up last year in the overall standings is also a contender for a win.

Another innovation for this year is that the Rund um den Mühlberg will now be really living up to its name. The listed windmill has been dismantled from its previous location and moved to the motocross track where it is now open to the public. The club, MSC Fürstlich Drehna, offers a varied programme for young and old in addition to motorsport that is in a class of its own. Children can use the ADAC Young Generation Suzuki quad track and the ADAC Insurance bouncy castle. A child´s weekend ticket costs ten euros and 20 euros for adults. Those who like to party can look forward to plenty of action in the marquee on Friday and Saturday night. An autograph session will be held on Sunday with top riders from the series. Christian Brockel, Glenn Coldenhoff, Max Nagl, Jeremy Seewer and Dennis Ullrich will make themselves available to autograph hunters this weekend at the ADAC Truck from 12.15 to 12.45 pm.

Over the Easter weekend, the ADAC eV organised a three-day training course in Spremberg for youngsters contesting the ADAC MX Junior Cup and the ADAC MX Cup to help them prepare for competition in the ADAC MX Masters series. The main aim for the coaches, Dominique Thury, ADAC MX Masters rider, former pro rider/ADAC MX Masters Champion Marcus Schiffer, and ADAC MX Academy chief coach Bernd Eckenbach was to tweak the young competitors´ riding techniques and give them fitness training tips.
