Victory and championship title for Coldenhoff: Hsu early champion in 2015 Youngster class as Van der Mierden claims Sunday win

Lichtenvoorde (Netherlands): Wet sand, huge puddles and fast bikes will have left a lasting impression on the spectators who attended the penultimate racing event of the 2015 ADAC MX Masters in Lichtenvoorde, Holland. Suzuki factory rider Glenn Coldenhoff (Team Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe) wasn´t going to let a bit of mud deprive him of victory in front of his home fans in Europe´s most popular motocross series. The 24-year-old from Heesch in the Netherlands won both races, which also sufficed for him to secure the International German Motocross Championship title ahead of time. "The target for this weekend was overall victory on Sunday," said the world championship rider. "The fact that I managed to wrap up the title at the same time was all the more satisfying."

Incessant rain turned the sand and compacted soil of the MACL Lichtenvoorde circuit into a mud bath before the eyes of the 2,000 fans who turned up to watch the weekend action. In both of the ADAC MX Masters class races, Coldenhoff defied the conditions to take the chequered flag first. By claiming the day victory in such decisive style, he could not have wished for a better homecoming in front of family, friends and fans: "The fact that I won here was very important for me. Not only that, I have at last managed to take overall victory on the day. With the weather conditions being so bad, I certainly hadn´t expected to win the title ahead of time. These were two gruelling races, because there were constant changes of position with my closest pursuers. In the end, though, the hard-fought campaign for championship points has paid off."

Husqvarna factory rider Nathan Watson (21, Red Bull Iceone Husqvarna Factory Racing) from England came second in both races and thus finished as runner-up on the day, having qualified in P1 on Saturday. "Both times, I was hot on the heels of Coldenhoff, but despite my best efforts, there was no catching him," said the world championship rider. Jeremy Delince (25, KMP Honda Repsol Racing Team) from Belgium took third place. Narrowly missing out on a podium was Austria´s Pascal Rauchenecker (22, HSV Ried, Cofain Racing KTM) in fourth place ahead of Dennis Ullrich (21, Team Castrol Power1 Suzuki Moto-Base). The former ADAC MX Masters Champion (2013, 2014) thus failed in his bid to make it a hat-trick of titles. "When you´re the reigning champion, you obviously go into the new season with the expectation of defending your title," said Ullrich. "Now I need to focus on securing the runner-up trophy on the final weekend."

New champion Coldenhoff is now on 314 points in the table ahead of Ullrich (244) in second and Switzerland´s Jeremy Seewer (21, Team Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe) in third on 240. ADAC Motorcycling spokesman Dieter Junge was full of praise for the excellent organisation of the event by the host club, MACL Lichtenvoorde: "This was an exciting and decisive race weekend. We have seen champions crowned ahead of time in two of the three classes. With the title winner coming from the Netherlands, the ADAC MX Masters has once again demonstrated its international credentials."

ADAC MX Youngster Cup

In the Youngster class for 15 to 21-year-olds, local favourite Sven van Mierden (Husqvarna-SKS Racing, NL) from Valkenswaard was elated about his result as best rider on the day. The Dutch youngster won the first moto and finished as runner-up in the second. "It´s a great feeling to pick up your first winner´s trophy and to have left such strong competition behind," said the 20-year-old who was making his first podium appearance of the season. Another rider with a broad grin on his face was ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Brian Hsu (17, Team Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe). Third place in the first moto and victory in the second was enough for second place overall on Sunday. But that wasn´t all for Hsu who was born in Freiburg to German-Taiwanese parents: having already claimed titles in the 2012 85cc World Championship and the 2014 Junior 125cc World Championship, he has now clinched the ADAC MX Youngster Cup title with one more race weekend to go: "In the first race, my main aim was to stay upright on two wheels. When I crossed the finish line in third place, I had no idea that I had just become champion. The second moto was much harder than the first, and I was ecstatic when I saw the chequered flag. It was only then that I realised I was the new champion." Third place on the podium went to Bas Vaessen from the Dutch town of Swalmen. Hsu has a now unassailable lead in the standings of 321 points. The event ended with disappointment for second-placed Nicholas Adams (18, Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Elf Pfeil) on 216 points. The young South African had set himself the target of winning both of the remaining weekends but ultimately had to settle for tenth place on Sunday. Third place in the championship is currently occupied by Stefan Ekerold (19, Bodo Schmidt Motorsport) from Weiskirchen on 202 points.

ADAC MX Junior Cup

As in Saturday´s qualifying heats for the class of the youngest riders, i.e. 10 to 15-year-olds, local favourite Rick Elzinga (13, Beursfoon KTM Youth Team) once again prevailed against strong opposition. He won the first moto and thus secured his first victory of the season. The second race was cancelled due to the adverse conditions for safety reasons. "That was a mud battle," said the Dutch junior who lives 45 kilometres away in Zenderen. "It´s just as well that I knew the track from my previous appearances here. Otherwise it would have been impossible to win, because I couldn´t see anything through my goggles." Second place went to Petr Polak (14, MEFO Sport Racing Team) from the Czech Republic ahead of Danish KTM rider Rasmus Pedersen (11). The best of the German contingent was Jeremy Sydow (15, Falcon Motorsports, KTM) from Chemnitz who had to settle for sixth place. Mikkel Haarup (13, KTM Kosak Racing Team) from Denmark had been leading the standings before the weekend but was absent from the event due to injury. Consequently, Sydow´s P6 was enough for him to take over at the top. The points situation now looks like this: Sydow leads on 189 points ahead of Haarup (184) and Polak (166).

On the weekend of 5th/6th September, the ADAC MX Masters will stage its final event of 2015 on the tradition-steeped motocross track tradition at Gaildorf in Baden-Württemberg. Riders will be competing in all three classes: the ADAC MX Masters, the ADAC MX Youngster Cup and the ADAC MX Junior Cup. The outcome of the ADAC MX Junior Cup is yet to be decided, so there will be the element of suspense and surprise right up to the end. The ADAC Young Generation Suzuki Quad track, the ADAC Unfallschutz bouncy castle, the freely accessible paddock, the exclusive autograph session with the ADAC MX Masters riders and the fan mile with stalls selling motocross merchandise all promise to make the event a fun experience for the whole family and a memorable finale to the season.
