The ADAC MX Masters at Aichwald (Baden-Württemberg) was won by guest starter Tim Gajser (Honda Gariboldi). Currently placed second in the MX2 class of the world championship, the Slovenian rider picked up the Sunday winner´s trophy after securing victory on the beautifully landscaped 1,755-metre clay track. In front of nearly 22,000 fans, Suzuki factory rider and current ADAC MX Masters championship leader Glenn Coldenhoff (24, Team Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe) was outclassed by the 18-year-old and this time had to settle for second place. The third podium spot was claimed by Pascal Rauchenecker (HSV Ried/Cofain Racing KTM) from Austria.
"That was a perfect comeback to the series," said Gajser after the podium ceremony. "I´m familiar with the track from my time in the ADAC MX Junior Cup. That´s why I came to Aichwald thinking I could win again. I felt great, and the large crowd around the track pushed me all the way to the chequered flag." In addition to Dutchman Coldenhoff, the field of top riders at Aichwald included Pascal Rauchenecker who secured his first podium finish of the season. "My starts went especially well," said the 22-year-old. "I got out of the starting gate so quickly that I was able to gain a lot of valuable time early on." The championship standings now look like this: Coldenhoff retains his lead on 173 points, while reigning ADAC MX Masters Champion Dennis Ullrich (2013, 2014) trails by 28 points. In third place is Switzerland´s Jeremy Seewer on 131 points. Rauchenecker is currently fourth (118 points).
ADAC MX Youngster Cup
Brian Hsu (Team Rockstar Energy Suzuki Europe) had every reason to feel satisfied with his weekend in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup as he picked up the trophy for the overall class victory on Sunday for the third time in a row. The ADAC Sports Foundation protégé, who is of German-Taiwanese extraction, explains the secret of his success: "I always try to stay calm and relaxed, even if I get overtaken in the race. I know that I am faster than my opponents and that I´ll get them back by the end of the race. The race outcome is often decided in the mind, certainly in my case." Runner-up was Martin Krc (19, SZA-STAV Racing Team, KTM) from the Czech Republic ahead of Stefan Ekerold (19, Bodo Schmidt Motorsport, KTM) from Weiskirchen. 17-year-old Hsu has a massive lead at the top of the championship standings – 186 points compared to second-placed Ekerold´s 138. South African-born Nicholas Adams (18, Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil) finished fourth on Sunday to move into third place overall (116 points).
ADAC MX Junior Cup
Defending champion Mikkel Haarup (13, Kosak-KTM-Team) came under intense pressure from Jeremy Sydow (15, Falcon Motorsports/KTM), with the junior from Chemnitz ultimately taking the Sunday victory ahead of the Dane: "This is my first victory this season and I am really happy to be on the top rung of the podium. I´ve scored some vital points which have taken me one step closer to the title." Third place went to René Hofer (13, MSC Imbach/Kini KTM Junior Team Pro) from Austria. Sunday´s runner-up Haarup retains his lead (144 points) in the overall standings, staying ahead of Sydow (127) and Petr Polak (14, MEFO Sport Racing Team) from the Czech Republic on 106.
Next stop for the ADAC MX Masters is a regular venue in northern Germany. The fifth of eight race events will be staged by ADAC Schleswig-Holstein at Tensfeld on the weekend of 17th/18th July. The challenging Tensfeld track with its deep sandy surface is playing host to the international motocross elite for the tenth time. Races will be contested in the ADAC MX Masters and the ADAC MX Youngster Cup classes. The ADAC MX Junior Cup misses out on this occasion, but by way of compensation, there will be all-female motos.
