Tensfeld: Sand expert Strijbos ahead in qualifying: ADAC MX Masters local rider Stender hoping for place in Top Ten on Sunday

The ADAC MX Masters qualifying in Tensfeld, Schleswig-Holstein, was dominated by sand specialist Kevin Strijbos (30, BEL, Team Suzuki World MXGP). The world championship rider, who rode previously on the 1,850-metre sand track at MCE Tensfeld eV in 2015 and secured victory on the day there, had everyone talking about him again this weekend. On Saturday the Belgian was a third of a second faster than team-mate Arminas Jasikonis (18, LIT, Team Suzuki World MXGP) and secured pole position for the race on Sunday as a result. "I think the track is really great with lots of jumps and deep grooves, which suits me down to the ground. I also like the physical challenge of sandy soil. You have to concentrate that bit more than on hard ground, so you get a thorough work out both physically and mentally," said the 30-year-old, who is using his participation in the ADAC MX Masters at Tensfeld as preparation for the world championship race in Lommel, Belgium (30th - 31st July 2016). Third best time went to Swiss world championship rider Jeremy Seewer (21, Team Suzuki World MX2), resulting in a Suzuki works team lock-out of the top three places in qualifying.

ADAC MX Masters championship leader Dennis Ullrich (22, KTM Sarholz Racing Team) will start the races on Sunday from P6 on the grid, while local rider Mike Stender (25, Team Castrol Power 1 Suzuki Moto-Base) will be in P16. His prognosis: "The field of riders here in Tensfeld is extremely strong, so finishing in the Top Three could be tough. Still, that is, of course, what makes motocross such a big turn-on, going up against top competition, so in many ways, it´s going to be an exciting weekend for me here, since family and friends will also be at the track to support me," said the man from Eutin, who definitely intends to finish in the Top Ten on Sunday.

ADAC MX Youngster Cup

Proceedings in qualifying for the ADAC MX Youngster Cup were completely dominated by championship leader Miro Sihvonen (17, FIN, Diga Junior Racing Team, KTM), who put on a confident and competent display. The Finn impressed with best time of 1:57.430, which was, incidentally, just a second slower than the Big Boys in the Masters class. And so, Sihvonen (KTM 18, Falcon Motorsports) can take his place at the start gate tomorrow in front of Spanish world championship competitor Jorge Prado (15, ESP, Red Bull KTM) and Belgian Nathan Renkens. This was a welcome but by no means surprising result for the 17-year-old: "I am a sand specialist and can really get to grips with tracks like this one here in Tensfeld. My target tomorrow is to take two wins and emerge from the event as winner on the day," said the teenager, who rides for Diga Junior Racing team and is lining up in the ADAC MX Masters racing series for the first time this year.

ADAC MX Junior Cup

It soon became clear after a few laps just who was calling the shots in qualifying for the ADAC MX Junior Cup. Currently second in the standings, Austrian rider Rene Hofer (14, MSC Imbach, Kini KTM Junior Pro Team by Mefo Sport) made his mark with a time of 2:14. 929 and thus consigned the leader of the first qualifying group, the Swede Emil Jönrup (13, KTM ), to second place. "Riding on this track was very tricky for us on our 85cc bikes and a real challenge, even though I´ve trained on sand all winter and am physically quite up to the task. But I was really looking forward to lining up again in the Masters series, and that spurred me on enormously," said the 14-year-old. Young German rider Maximilian Spies (Husqvarna, 12) was delighted with his third place in qualifying behind Hofer and Jönrup.
