ADAC MX Masters at Gaildorf: Dennis Ullrich intends to become champion before season's end

The sixth ADAC MX Masters meeting on 26th and 27th August at MSC Gaildorf eV is certain to be extremely interesting in all three classes. In the big boys category, Dennis Ullrich's (24, KTM Sarholz Racing Team) title bid on its own will guarantee an exciting race weekend. As the three-time champion of the race series, Ulle is the most successful ADAC MX Masters winner to date. A fourth title win would serve to further enhance the remarkable career of this rider, who has consistently contested the series since 2004. "This season is one of my best ever since turning professional. I've put very little pressure on myself this season right from the start, which has made me feel much more relaxed and much freer mentally. I think that has played a big part in my taking the lead this year and retaining it ever since the second Masters meeting," said the 24-year-old in the run-up to the race weekend.

However, winning the title in the top class before the end of the season will not be easy on the 1,654-metre Auf der Wacht clay track. Just like Ullrich, world championship star Max Nagl (30, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team) is an expert on circuits with a hard surface and took the top spot on the podium last year as a guest entrant. In addition, the strong performances of Jens Getteman (23, Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil), who is currently second in the standings and world champion Henry Jacobi (20, STC Racing Team, Husqvarna) in third place should not be forgotten. A total of 250 riders from more than 26 countries have registered to take part in the ADAC MX Masters meeting at MSC Gaildorf eV. Apart from Ullrich, Nagl and Jacobi, Christian Brockel (33, KTM GST Berlin), Angus Heidecke (27, KTM Sarholz Racing Team) and Mike Stender (26, Team Castrol Power 1 Suzuki Moto-Base) are also among the best German aces.

The two German riders, Kevin Winkle (21, CLM powered by Winkle Racing, KTM) and Maik Schaller (25, KTM Kosak Racing), will also be at the starting gate. Both ADAC MX Masters riders have been familiar with the circuit in Gaildorf for many years from regularly posting laps there on their own account and also from coaching juniors aged between six and 18 once a month. "I'm really looking forward to the meeting at Gaildorf. I live just 15 kilometres from the track and have known the circuit for many years," says Winkle, who first rode a moped when he was five and began competing in the ADAC MX Junior Cup in 2006. And Schaller too, who has gone head-to-head against the Big Boys since 2010 and works as an industrial mechanic near Gaildorf, told us: "I enjoy the Auf der Wacht race more than any other round of the Masters. It's fairly technical but also has interesting bits such as step-ups and double-jumps, which I find really great." Many family members and friends will come along to their home track at the weekend to support the pair of them.

In the ADAC MX Youngster Cup as well, there are many local riders out to impress this season. There are no less than two riders, who come from the club's immediate vicinity, Ruben Schmid from Schorndorf (15, MX Handel Gibson Tyre Tech Racing Team, KTM) and Lukas Kengeter from Auenwald (13, KTM Kosak Racing Team/MSC Gaildorf eV). For both of them, however, there is first of all the matter of qualifying in order to secure one of the 40 coveted places for Race Sunday. Things are looking particularly exciting in Class 2, however, especially at the top. At the moment, German rider, Thomas Koch (19, KTM Sarholz Racing Team), has a 39-point lead on his rival, Richard Sikyna (19, SLO, MX Slovakia, KTM) and a lead of 36 points on Thomas Sileika (18/LAT, WZ Racing, KTM). There is no margin for error if he intends to win the championship. Things look very similar in the ADAC MX Junior Cup. Just thirteen points separate front-runner, Max Palsson (14, SWE, Mefo Sport Racing Team) from the second-placed rider in the standings, Magnus Smith (13/DEN, Mefo Sort Racing Team), and Jett Lawrence (14, Team Suzuki World MX2) in third place is only 26 points adrift. So, the ADAC MX Junior Cup championship is still wide open in its thirteenth season.

During the ADAC MX Masters at Gaildorf, there will also be a press conference on Saturday night in the VIP tent at 6.00 pm. Wolfgang Thomas, Team Principal of MXoN Team Germany, will announce his definitive national team line-up for this year's Motocross of Nations (MXoN) in England. To conclude the press conference, ADAC Motorcycle Correspondent Wolfgang Wagner-Sachs and Dieter Porsch, ADAC Head of Motorbike Coordination, will speak about the 2018 ADAC MX Masters.

Apart from a one-year break, MSC Gaildorf eV has been an event organiser for the ADAC MX Masters continuously since 2008 and has won the award of 'best organiser' five times. Also, the club stood out for the third time in a row after being voted 'best track' last year. The club intends to live up to its fine reputation with its Auf der Wacht circuit once more in 2017 and provide a very varied support programme for the whole family aside from the racing action. Both the ADAC Insurance bouncy castle and the ADAC Young Generation Suzuki Quad circuit will be on hand to keep younger visitors amused while adults can enjoy the many stands for fans and stalls offering gastronomic delights, plus there's the added attraction of the 'Original Südtiroler Spitzbuam"' and 'Crossfire' in the marquee on Friday and Saturday night. On Sunday from 12.15 to 12.45 pm, there will be an autograph-signing session at the ADAC Truck with top stars from the MX scene. At Gaildorf, it will be the turn of world championship riders, Max Nagl and Henry Jacobi, ADAC MX Masters three-time champion Dennis Ullrich and Jens Getteman, who is currently in second place in the standings, to sign posters and have their photos taken during the half-hour session. Tickets for qualifying on Saturday cost 6 euros for adults and 18 euros on Race Sunday. Children and teenagers under the age of 16 accompanied by a paying adult get free admittance to the circuit.

The ADAC MX Masters is supported by Red Bull, Suzuki, Motul, 24MX, Maxxis, Nolan, Alliance, Racing Policy, KTM, Husqvarna, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Fiat, Ortema, Magura, Motocross Enduro , Crossmagazine, Dirtbiker, Goldfren, Tsubaki, Leatt Corporation and Mefo Sport with its partners Acerbis and Mefo Mousse.
