The ADAC MX Masters anniversary weekend at MCE Tensfeld eV in Schleswig-Holstein turned into world championship rider Henry Jacobi's (20, STC Racing Team, Husqvarna) very own personal stand-out event. He seemed to be particularly well motivated after emerging victorious from the qualifying session on Saturday, taking victory on the day in front of some 7,500 spectators with a P2 in Race 1 and third place in Race 2. "I was first in practice, in the quali, in the warm-up and in the overall standings. You just can't do any more. I'm very pleased, because I've finished on the top rung of the podium in the Masters class for the first time today. It appears that sandy tracks suit me more than I ever thought after racking up some decent points previously in the ADAC MX Masters meetings at Fürstlich Drehna and Mölln and in the world championship races on sand," said the 20-year-old. Front-runner Dennis Ullrich (23, KTM Sarholz Racing Team) took second place overall while Swedish rider Jonathan Bengtsson (24, Team Glasakuten, KTM) took the honours for P3 on the day. Ulle still leads the overall rankings from Jens Getteman (23, Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil) in second place, who finished seventh overall during this fifth ADAC MX Masters meeting. Henry Jacobi is now in P3 after the Tensfeld meeting.
Local favourite Mike Stender (26, Team Castrol Power 1 Suzuki Moto-Base) had some bad luck in the second race when he was involved in a crash with his rival Brian Hsu (19, Husqvarna Maurer Gep Racing Team). Stender sustained an injury and was forced to retire. "I got a good start in both races and was able to contend for the lead. I placed seventh in the first race, so I thought it was a very realistic aim to want to finish in the Top Ten on the day here in Tensfeld. I'm 14th now, which is a bit disappointing," he told us. And North German rider Michel Kaschny (27, TTW-Offroad Team, KTM) also had mixed feelings after his race weekend on home turf. "I was quite satisfied with my performance in the first race, but things were anything but brilliant in the second race. I had to pit twice in the 'helper box' to change my glasses. I then bit my tongue and my rear brake stopped working. It's a great shame, but I'm still pleased that I took part," he said after finishing 32nd. The highlights from the ADAC MX Masters at Tensfeld will be broadcast at 4.50pm July 30th on Motorvision TV and at 2.25pm August 6th on Sport1+.
ADAC MX Youngster Cup
The 100th ADAC MX Masters event in Tensfeld produced the best spine-tingling moment of the weekend in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. Mönchengladbach-based rider Lukas Platt (21, DW Racing Team, KTM), who had already drawn attention to himself with a good start and a solid ninth place in the first race, drove as if he were from another planet in the second race, not only winning the race but ultimately securing victory on the day into the bargain, a result that made the master carpenter from the Ruhr feel very emotional. "This is my first podium in the race series. I just can't take it all in yet. I am indeed a sand specialist and half Dutch, but I would have never expected such a showing. I was in P2 directly after the start and thought, now's my big chance, so I wound open the throttle and just concentrated on not falling off over the final three laps. I'm really pleased," said the 21-year-old, who last scored points in 2012 after winning the ADAC national finals. Another special motivating factor for him was that his team had promised him a new bike if he took victory on the day at Tensfeld. Championship leader, Tom Koch (19, KTM Sarholz Racing Team), won a trophy for third place overall at the Tensfeld meeting. Polish rider Gabriel Chetnicki (18, JWD, Ferrotherm Racing, KTM) finished third overall.
ADAC MX Junior Cup
Spectators watching the ADAC MX Junior Cup saw Australian Jett Lawrence (13, Team Suzuki World MX2) turn in a truly superb performance. Currently living in Lommel, Lawrence literally raced away from his rivals like greased lightning to finish 16 seconds up in Race 1 and five seconds ahead in Race 2. "My father used to say that you're half way there with a good start, so that's always the first piece of advice that I follow to the letter as the race gets under way. And then after that, it's just a case of head down, bum up and off you go! This weekend's results are thanks to all the extremely hard training I've put in over the past few days. I've done a lot to improve, was forever practising on sand and am in tip-top physical shape. It was a perfect weekend for me, and I will do my utmost to score points at the next two Masters meetings," said the Australian, who rides for the Suzuki World MX2 team. However, the 13-year-old should not underestimate the current form of front-runner, Max Palsson (14, Mefo Sport Racing Team, KTM) and Magnus Smith (13, Mefo Sport Racing Team, KTM) in second place, as the two Scandinavians also turned in a strong performance during this race weekend in Schleswig-Holstein and impressed by finishing second on the day and third overall respectively. Palsson retains the lead in the championship as a result and is ahead of both Smith and Lawrence in the standings.
Preview
The penultimate ADAC MX Masters meeting at MSC Gaildorf eV is next up on the schedule (23rd/24th August). The club has been awarded the accolade of 'Best Organising Club' in the ADAC MX Masters for the last four years, so both spectators and riders alike can once again look forward to a stand-out event this year in the very heart of Baden-Württemberg. The 1.654-km 'Auf der Wacht' circuit is set on a hill in a natural setting, so there are many uphill and downhill passages with plenty of jumps as a result. A special feature for spectators is that the track can be viewed from almost any angle, so the races can be followed from start to finish. The Gaildorf track has the largest party marquee on the national MX circuit and will also host a press conference for MXoN Team Germany during the ADAC MX Masters when Team Principal Wolfgang Thomas will announce the final line-up for this year's team in the Motocross of Nations at Matterley Basin in the UK.
