ADAC MX Masters·30.4.2017

Local rider Dominique Thury ninth at home track: Three-time champion Ullrich now heads standings

Three-time champion ADAC MX Masters Dennis Ullrich (23, KTM Sarholz Racing Team) dominated the second ADAC MX Masters meeting at the Jauer MX club in Saxony. Ullrich lived up to his reputation as the top star of the series this weekend by winning two races, two Red Bull Hole Shots and victory on the day, sweeping the board at the race weekend. "I think the secret to my success is that I train differently to my competitors. I don't ride on the limit all the time and haven't got the throttle permanently wide open. I approach things calmly and am perhaps not the fastest in qualifying, but I do the business in the points-scoring races, and that's the main thing," said the 23-year-old. Going up against the 'big boys', Australian world championship rider Hunter Lawrence (17, Team Suzuki World MX2) impressed by finishing second. Christian Brockel (33, KTM GST Berlin) was delighted with his P3. He appeared quite relieved, saying: "I felt so frustrated after the season opener at Fürstlich Drehna and am now very pleased to have done something right. It means a lot to me."

However, the race weekend at MC Jauer eV went none too well for the previous leader in the standings, Jens Getteman (23, BEL, Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil). The Belgian placed fifth and had to relinquish the top spot to his rival, Dennis Ullrich. And local favourite Dominique Thury (24, KTM GST Berlin) would also have been happier with a result in the Top Five. The rider from Bad Schlema in Saxony placed eighth in Race 1 and eleventh in Race 2 to finish ninth overall in the standings. "Ultimately, I failed to get away well at the start of the second race, which made it difficult for me to push forwards, but it could have been worse, so I'm glad to have at least secured a couple of vital points," said the 24-year-old. Sport1+ and Motorvision TV will feature highlights from the Jauer ADAC MX Masters meeting on 6th May at 11.05 am and on 14th May at 3.53 pm respectively.

ADAC MX Youngster Cup

In the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, Slovakian Richard Sikyna (19, MX Slovakia, KTM) repeated his fine performance from the previous day's qualifying to secure a good haul of points with victory on the day. The 19-year-old had fought his way up from P20 to P3 in the first race. He managed to take the lead immediately after the start of Race 2 and keep it to the end. "I've had an excellent weekend. This was my very first time at Jauer, and I will remember this weekend as being extremely action-packed and exciting," said the KTM rider. His rival, Tom Koch (19, KTM Sarholz Racing Team) also had good reason to be delighted with his maiden podium in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. Two second places in two races put him in second place overall. "It was just amazing, the way the spectators cheered me. It spurred me on and gave me an extra dose of motivation," said the 19-year-old from Wormstedt. French teenager Zachary Pichon (16, Team Suzuki World MX2) impressed by finishing third on the day at the ADAC MX Masters meeting in Jauer, but Miro Sihvonen from Finland (18, Diga Junior Racing Team, KTM) still holds the lead in the standings of the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. The Scandinavian clawed his way to victory in the first race but was forced to retire with injury in the second race. Nevertheless, the points were enough to enable him to retain the top position at the head of the table. The young MX talent currently has a lead of one point on Pichon and two on Sikyna.

ADAC MX Junior Cup

Danish teenager Magnus Smith (13, Mefo Sport Racing Team, KTM) had good cause to celebrate with two race wins, giving him victory on the day at Jauer. His excellent results also enabled him to take the top spot in the standings from Swedish rider, Max Palsson (14, KTM). "I really like tracks with hard surfaces and was able to position myself extremely well here. I'm reaping the fruits of training hard over the winter, and I feel quite optimistic about my chances of winning the title this season. The pressure obviously won't ease up as the new championship leader, but I work constantly with my coach and parents to improve my mental strength," said the 13-year-old. German MX talent, Constantin Piller (13, MSC Freisinger Bär, KTM), finished second in the second race and placed second overall on the day. The Russian, Nikita Kucherov (13, Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil), took a trophy for third place overall.
