Riders too find it appealing with its lucrative bonuses and many highly desirable prizes of equipment. Some 55 riders from the three classes with ADAC MX Masters champion Dennis Ullrich (24, KTM Sarholz Racing Team), ADAC MX Youngster Cup winner Tom Koch (19, KTM Sarholz Racing Team) and ADAC MX Junior Cup winner Magnus Smith (13, Mefo Sport Racing Team) at their head will benefit from prize money totalling around a quarter of a million euros.
Ullrich and Koch also both won a Red Bull refrigerator and a year's supply of energy drinks, plus two VIP tickets for an overnight stay at an exclusive Red Bull event. They were among the winners of the Red Bull Holeshot Award for being the best starters this season; 24-year-old Ulle also won this special award in 2013, 2014 and 2016. He is not only the most successful rider in the ADAC MX Masters, having secured four championship titles, but is also the most famous 'super starter' in the racing series. During 2017, he was the first to reach Turn 1 nine times in all. In the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, though, the overall winner of the Red Bull Holeshot competition was not decided until the finale at Holzgerlingen, as a different rider took a point from each race this year for winning the Holeshot. However, at the seventh and final race meeting, Koch and Michael Sandner (18, Thermotec Racing KTM by Mefo) were able to win through at the start one more time, so Red Bull awarded the prize to both young riders. Nick Domann (14, Falcon Motorsports, KTM) was the best Junior starter.
Other very desirable special prizes were awarded by Leatt and Nolan, who wanted to support young MX talents in particular. Czech rider Petr Polak (16, KTM) nosed ahead in the Leatt Two-stroke Award and will receive one-year's supply of Leatt equipment to include various items of MX tackle and protective gear for his fine performance. Riders in both the Youngster and Junior categories could also win two lots of Nolan X-lite helmet sponsorship to include helmet bags, professional helmet fitting and service for 2018. This special prize went to Tom Koch and Magnus Smith for consistently posting best time during qualifying throughout the whole of the season.
The presentation of the Michael Spacek special prizes was once again a special feature of the ADAC MX Masters end of year awards. Stanislav Spacek, who owns the Goldfren brake company which is an ADAC MX Masters partner, presents this prize each year for outstanding performance in motocross in memory of his son, Michael, who passed away after an accident. Mr Spacek was particularly impressed by three riders this year. He picked out ADAC MX Youngster Cup rider and privateer Lukas Platt (19, DW Racing Team, KTM) on account of his tenacity, his strength and his fighting spirit after causing an upset to round off the Tensfeld race weekend with victory on the day at the challenging sand circuit and by finishing the season ninth overall. Platt will receive a complete package of braking equipment by way of sponsorship for 2018. Spacek was also impressed by ADAC MX Youngster Cup champion Tom Koch, who not only fought his way to the top with his fine performance but also covered some 20,000 kilometres during 2017 in order to get to certain EMX meetings. He decided to award him 1,000 euros for his efforts and for his riding ability. He nominated record ADAC MX Masters championship winner Dennis Ullrich as the third beneficiary of the Michael Spacek Award. The Bavarian has suffered a number of personal setbacks in recent years. He received a bonus of 2,000 euros for his fair, tactically well-thought-out style of riding over the course of many seasons. Spacek dedicated this award to Ulle's coach Thomas Kneip, who passed away in 2015.
KTM Sarholz Racing Team managed by Team Principal, Burkhard Sarholz, again won the team classification for the best results secured by riders across all three classes and prize money to the tune of 1,000 euros. KTM secured the trophy for the most successful brand in the 2017 ADAC MX Masters.
