Win in qualifying for Henry Jacobi : Glen Meier takes pole position in ADAC MX Youngster Cup

With a length of 1,850 metres, the track belonging to MCE Tensfeld eV is Germany’s largest motocross sandpit. The circuit is one of the most challenging on the ADAC MX Masters’ race calendar with its notorious double loop after the 80-metre main straight at the start, its 15 jumps and constantly changing ruts. In conditions nudging 18 degrees with sun at times, world championship rider Henry Jacobi (20, STC Racing Team, Husqvarna) showed that he’s very happy on sand during this special 100th anniversary meeting of the race series. With a best time of 1: 55.811 minutes, the young MX talent from Bad Sulza in Thuringia managed to post the fastest lap just before taking the chequered flag. “I practised a lot on sand with Marcus Schiffer before the start of the season, and, since he has won the ADAC MX Masters twice before at Tensfeld, he was able to give me plenty of useful tips which I used to my advantage here in qualifying,” said the 20-year-old from STC Racing. And his rival, Christian Brockel (33, KTM GST Berlin), was also in a particularly good mood after qualifying in the top flight with a time of 1:57.519 minutes, securing second place at the starting gate on race Sunday. Brockel: “I’ve had a few really good weeks just lately and am doing extremely well currently. Also, sand is my favourite terrain, so today’s good result could augur well for race Sunday.” Dennis Ullrich (23, KTM Sarholz Racing Team) placed third overall.

The two North German ‘big’ boys, Mike Stender from Eutin in Ostholstein (26, Team Castrol Power 1 Suzuki Moto-Base) and Michel Kaschny from Borstel-Hohenraden near Pinneberg (27, TTW-Offroad Team, KTM) also qualified for the points-scoring races. Stender will line up in P8 on the grid on Sunday while Kaschny will be in P25.

ADAC MX Youngster Cup

Danish rider Glen Meier (18, KTM Kosak Racing Team) surprised even himself with best time in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. The 18-year-old Scandinavian sustained an injury to his hand at the last ADAC MX Masters meeting in Bielstein (17th/18th June) but posted an excellent time of 1:57.639 minutes, which quite astonished him. “I’m not yet 100% fit, but fortunately, the speed is there, so I’m definitely aiming to finish in the Top Ten on Sunday and deal with front-runner Tom Koch in particular. The Tensfeld circuit is awesome. I love its flow and the fact that there are so many different ruts, which suits me down to the ground,” said the 18-year-old. Championship leader Tom Koch (19, KTM Sarholz Racing Team) was one second slower than Meier but was pleased with P2 in qualifying. Estonian Hardi Roosiorg (18, KTM) was third fastest.

ADAC MX Junior Cup

The Australian, Jett Lawrence (14, Team Suzuki World MX2), impressed with a remarkable performance in the ADAC MX Junior Cup. Just like ADAC MX Masters rider Henry Jacobi, the 14-year-old really let rip with the throttle again, especially on the final lap, to finish with best time of 2:10.292 minutes in Class 3. “The track isn’t that easy to ride, but fortunately, I live in Lommel, where practically all the tracks are on sand, so I was able to practise very frequently. That’s helped me a lot at Tensfeld and was a lot of fun into the bargain. If things go just as well in the races, then I’m in for a good weekend,” said the young MX talent, summing up his session. Magnus Smith (13, DEN, Mefo Sport Racing Team, KTM) was the second-fastest rider. Nikita Kucherov (13, Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil) will rock up in third place at the starting gate on race Sunday.

Programme

Apart from a one-year break, MCE Tensfeld eV has regularly held ADAC MX Masters meetings since the series first made its debut in 2005. Some 200 volunteers put in a lot of hard work before the event to ensure that the club’s grounds were immaculately prepared. The circuit was extended a little and additional stands provided to improve the view for spectators. A varied support programme for young and old away from the action on track was already up and running on Saturday. Kids were well catered for with the ADAC Insurance bouncy castle and the Suzuki quad circuit while the grown-ups were able to explore the many stands for fans and various culinary delights on offer. The top stars from the scene will make themselves available between 12.15pm - 12.45 pm at the ADAC Truck. Championship leader Dennis Ullrich, Jens Getteman, who is placed second in the standings, world championship rider Henry Jacobi and local favourite Mike Stender will spend half-an-hour with fans, signing autographs and taking selfies. Tickets will cost ¤15 for adults on race Sunday and ¤6 for youngsters aged from ten to 15. Children up to and including nine years of age are admitted for free when accompanied by an adult.
