ADAC MX Masters·24.7.2018

ADAC MX Masters goes up north for Round 5: Tensfeld to host ADAC MX Masters in second fixture of 2018 in northern Germany

Riders and equipment will be really put through their paces on the 1.53km track belonging to the MCE Tensfeld club. The physical fitness of the riders will be tested to the limit on a deep, sandy surface as summer temperatures continue to soar. The motorcycles will have to be perfectly maintained and prepared to cope with the heavy demands of the sandy track.

Tensfeld will be staging two races in each of the three usual classes - ADAC MX Masters, ADAC MX Youngster Cup and ADAC MX Junior Cup 125. In the prestigious Masters, Henry Jacobi (STC Husqvarna Racing), Jeffrey Dewulf (Motorsport Desmet-KTM) and Hunter Lawrence (KMP-Honda-Racing) must be considered as favourites in the soft sand. Jacobi has led the championship since the most recent weekend at Möggers in Austria and fancies his chances of further extending his lead in northern Germany. "Tensfeld was the only ADAC MX Masters race I managed to win last season," says the 21-year-old. "I like competing there and expect to do well again this year. But my closest rivals in the championship are good in the sand, so it's not going to be easy." Jacobi is disappointed that one of them, Max Nagl (TM Factory Racing), has to miss out due to injury: "It's a pity that Max is unable to compete. I would rather have continued the battle for the title with him on the track."

While Dewulf has acquired a reputation as a sand specialist, Hunter Lawrence is not necessarily known as such, but the Australian is usually very fast on any surface and should therefore be considered as a contender for victory at Tensfeld. Jens Getteman (Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil) is also expected to be in the mix. Getteman made a podium appearance at Möggers and has gained experience in countless practice sessions and races on sandy tracks in his native Belgium. Bence Szvoboda (HTS Team, KTM), surprise overall winner at Möggers, is also in the running for a decent result at Tensfeld. "I'm not a big fan of soft and sandy tracks," admits the Hungarian. "But I know Tensfeld and will be doing my best there as always."

An additional element of unpredictability will be provided by guest starters Julien Lieber (Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team), Harri Kullas (POL Motors, Husqvarna) and Tanel Leok (A1M Husqvarna). Lieber is a Kawasaki factory rider in the MXGP World Championship and has had several Top Ten finishes in the current season. The 24-year-old Belgian is regarded as a strong challenger on sand and will therefore be in contention for a podium at Tensfeld. Finland's Harri Kullas is no stranger to Germany and has been among the front-runners in ADAC MX Masters races on multiple occasions. He has also appeared on the podium in the Motocross World Championship. Leok is a highly experienced World Championship rider who is also good for a top result on sandy soil. The 33-year-old Estonian's first experience of the ADAC MX Masters came in 2000 when he won the ADAC MX Junior Cup as a teenager.

The ADAC MX Youngster Cup is shaping up to be a tense affair this season. The junior series, which is contested on 250cc four-stroke machines, enjoys an excellent reputation throughout Europe and is regarded as a springboard for talented youngsters wishing to embark on an international career. Just how close it is in this class can be seen from the championship table in which the first five contestants are separated by only 27 points. The highest-placed German rider is Jeremy Sydow (WZ-Racing) in ninth, but leading the way are a trio of Austrians: Rene Hofer (KTM Junior Racing), Roland Edelbacher (Dimoco Europe Racing, KTM) and Michi Sandner (Thermotec Racing KTM/Mefo Sport Racing Team). None of the Top Three would describe themselves as a sand specialist, but in the season opener at Fürstlich Drehna, they all proved that they are extremely fast on soft surfaces. 19 year-old Edelbacher is likely to be carrying forward the momentum from his debut guest appearance in the MX2 Motocross World Championship at Loket where he finished the day in 15th place. Slovakia's Richard Sikyna (JD Gunnex KTM Racing Team), who is currently fourth in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, surpassed even Edelbacher in the Czech Republic, finishing eleventh overall. The strong field of Youngsters can be relied on to continue delivering exciting race action at Tensfeld.

The same goes for the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125. This class was inaugurated in 2018 as an intermediate stage for young riders transitioning from the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 to the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. The new class proved tremendously popular right from the start. Unsurprisingly, the rider line-up is as talented as it is international. It is currently led by Sweden's Filip Olsson (Team DIGA-Procross, Husqvarna) with Holland's Raf Meuwissen (Raths Motorsports, KTM) five points behind. The best of the German contingent is ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Lion Florian (KTM) in third place.

Tensfeld is in the administrative district of Segeberg, Schleswig-Holstein, approximately 60 kilometres to the north-east of Hamburg. The whole of the newly renovated and improved circuit is clearly visible from almost all of the viewing stands, which makes it an especially attractive experience for the fans. There is plenty of parking available nearby in the town of Tensfeld itself with a regular shuttle bus service to the track. The ADAC Unfallschutz bouncy castle and the ADAC Young Generation Suzuki quad track will once again be present for families with young children. As an additional attraction for the fans, there will be an autograph session at 11.45am on Sunday with Henry Jacobi, Jeffrey Dewulf, Jens Getteman, Hunter Lawrence and Julien Lieber in attendance. The star riders of the ADAC MX Masters will be signing autographs and posing for selfies with fans next to the ADAC truck until around 12.15pm.

A weekend ticket for adults costs 20 euros. Young people aged 10 - 15 get in for half price. Children up to 9 years of age qualify for free admission when accompanied by an adult. A day ticket for Sunday costs 15 euros and 7 euros for the 10 - 15 age bracket.
