The titles in the 2018 ADAC MX Masters have all now been taken. In windy but otherwise good conditions, 10,000 spectators made their way to the Schützenbühlring circuit to watch the title-deciding ADAC MX Masters races and were kept well entertained, as there was plenty of exciting racing in all four classes. Henry Jacobi travelled to Holzgerlingen with a comfortable lead of 33 points and so, did nothing in Race 1 of the ADAC MX Masters class that might endanger his chances of victory in the championship. He got away well, was in the lead right from the start and heading for the win. “I was determined not to do anything stupid and secured the title with a safe performance,” he said with delight after clinching his first title in the ADAC MX Masters. “I thought about each and every overtaking move at least three or four times to ensure that nothing happened. I’m just happy now to have won the title.”
Belgian rider Jeffrey Dewulf did not play any part in deciding who took the win on the day at Holzgerlingen, as P9 and a P6 were enough for him to secure the title of championship runner-up. “Things did not go at all well for me today,” admitted Dewulf. “But we’ve all had our ups and downs during the season, and overall, I’m very pleased with my performance and intend to return even stronger and fight for the title next year.” Jens Getteman (Monster Energy Kawasaki Elf Team Pfeil) came home behind Dewulf and secured a podium for third place overall. Despite failing to take points from the last race, the Belgian rider was third overall, finishing just ahead of Max Nagl (TM Factory Racing), who took second place in the first race at Holzgerlingen after making a sensational comeback from a long break enforced by injury. In the second round, however, 31-year-old Nagl had to retire before the end. “I used up practically all my strength in the first round, as of course, I’m not on the best of forms following my long absence,” said Nagl about his mission. “I didn’t want to take any unnecessary risks and definitely did not want to fall.”
Australian rider Hunter Lawrence (KMP-Honda-Racing) took victory on the day again in an impressive manner. He rocked up at Holzgerlingen on his Honda 450 and demonstrated his extraordinary class even when riding the big bike. “I wanted to have some fun on a more powerful machine and did just that,” said the Aussie with a chuckle. “What a great way to end my season in Germany with two wins!” Despite only contesting four out of the seven races due to injury, he still managed to finish fifth in the overall standings.
Jordi Tixier (KTM Sarholz Racing Team) and Jeremy Delince (KMP Honda Racing) completed the podium on the day at Holzgerlingen. While Tixier had planned to do more and was not completely satisfied with his showing, Delince was pleased with his podium finish. “I broke my foot at Möggers,” said Delince. “That has slowed me down for quite a while now, but I’ve slowly gained momentum towards the end of the season.
ADAC MX Youngster Cup
Jett Lawrence (Team Suzuki Germany) and Roland Edelbacher (Dimoco Europe Racing/KTM) were the main championship contenders in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. Lawrence already had a 13 point lead as he headed to the finale and improved his position considerably with a win in the first race. And yet, he did not get the best of starts to the race but still battled his way doggedly past Edelbacher and up into P1. “I was able to gain a few places on the first lap,” said the 15-year-old, who was pleased with his strong performance. “I found a good rhythm after that and was able to win the race.” As Edelbacher was unable to finish higher than fifth, Lawrence took a 22-point lead with him to the crucial final round and only did what was necessary. “My start was not bad, and I was soon in the Top Ten,” said the Australian, “But after that, I didn’t take any unnecessary risks and got the title safely in the bag with seventh place.”
Edelbacher really upped the pace again in the last race and fought for the win with Dylan Walsh (Team Diga-Procross/Husqvarna) over the closing stages. “I still wanted to win the last round even though I knew it wouldn’t gain me anything,” said the Austrian about his motivation for pushing so hard. “Things didn’t quite work out, but I was very close and can therefore be satisfied with my showing. The puncture in the race at Gaildorf was really annoying, but still, there’s nothing we can do about that now, so I have to be satisfied with the title of championship runner-up.” With his victory in the second round, Walsh also secured the overall win on the day and was satisfied with his showing even though he was no longer able to catch Richard Sikyna (JD Gunnex KTM Racing Team) and had to make do with fourth position overall in the championship classification behind the Czech rider. “Keeping Edelbacher behind me wasn’t easy,” said the New Zealander about the final stages of the race. “But with the win, I was able to give the team something to remember me by! The guys have done a lot for me.”
ADAC MX Junior Cup 125
The title fight in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 was decided early on in the first race on Sunday morning. The two favourites, Filip Olsson (Team Diga-Procross/Husqvarna) and Raf Meuwissen (Raths Motorsports/KTM), both got a good start and were initially in the Top Five, but Meuwissen skidded briefly on the third lap and dropped back to eighth place. While Olsson was able to improve to P3, Meuwissen had to settle for P7, losing four more points to Olsson in the lead. However, the last race was really exciting, as Meuwissen led for four laps and was on course to take the title, but the Dutch rider’s nerves got the better of him again and he fell for a second time. “Well, what can I say, that was extremely annoying, for sure!” conceded Meuwissen. “But there’s nothing to be done about it. I did my best, but it wasn’t good enough. Well done, Filip!”
Swedish rider Olsson did not make a good start to the race but remained calm and ultimately benefited from his rival’s misfortune. “Things were pretty close today,” said Olsson. “Nevertheless, I tried to stay out of trouble and have two safe races. Things worked out in the end with the title win, and I’m very pleased about that.” Lion Florian (KTM) took victory on the day with two impressive wins, thus securing third place in the championship. “I’ve gradually gained pace towards the end of the season,” said the delighted Bavarian. “The two victories at Gaildorf and again here at Holzgerlingen make a fantastic end to my season and I can now concentrate on moving up into the ADAC MX Youngster Cup next year.” Finishing behind Florian, Mike Gwerder (KTM) and Simon Längenfelder (Pfeil Husqvarna Junior Team) completed the podium on the day.
ADAC MX Junior Cup 85
In the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85, 14-year-old Camden Mc Lellan (Kosak Racing Team/KTM) extended his lead in the first race on Saturday, as Liam Everts (KTM) took a tumble in the first corner and was unable to finish higher than fifth despite going on a strong charge. Mc Lellan, though, won the race and extended his lead to 20 points. With this comfortable points cushion, Mc Lellan could have tackled the race in a relatively relaxed manner, but he is a racer through and through and really got down to business despite his points advantage. “Things didn’t quite work out with the double win,” said the South African with a smile after taking second place behind race winner Everts. “But I secured the win on the day and the title, which makes for a really good end to a great season.”
Everts was also able to hold his head up high by ending his season with a race win. “I’d already won the start in yesterday’s first race but then collided with another driver and fell,” said the Belgian with some frustration. “So, winning this round today feels twice as good even though obviously, I was still unable to catch Camden by securing it.” Second place in the day’s ranking went to Nick Domann, who is really on his way up with two podiums at Holzgerlingen.
Constantin Piller was pleased with his third place in the overall standings. The Bavarian only scored five points at Holzgerlingen but had enough of a lead to keep third place in the end.
