The weather was excellent for the sixth round of the ADAC MX Masters at Gaildorf as qualifying and the first race in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 got underway. Many fans came on Saturday to Gaildorf's motocross centre par excellence with its 1.65-km auf der Wacht circuit and enjoyed plenty of top-class moto-cross racing.
In the ADAC MX Masters class, Jordi Tixier (KTM) posted the fastest lap on the track's hard surface. The 2014 MX2 World Champion showed his class in qualifying by posting a lap time of 1:44.826 minutes and outpacing Hunter Lawrence (KMP-Honda Racing) by more than 1.5 seconds. "I had to change teams recently and am riding a new bike," said the Frenchman. "But things went very well right from the start. I've not set myself any major goals for the race. My main aim is to have fun. I'm familiar with the Gaildorf circuit from previous events and really like it. Whether things will go well again tomorrow is something you can never predict, but my speed is good, and I'm looking forward to the two races."
Jeremy Delince (KMP-Honda-Racing) was the fastest rider in the second qualifying group. "I got lucky, because the second qualifying group was not as strong as the first," said the Belgian candidly. "But nevertheless, it is, of course, good to be the fastest in your group. I broke two toes at Möggers and as a result, have not been fully match fit in the past few races. The pain has now gone, and I can exercise normally again. Let's wait and see how things go tomorrow."
Henry Jacobi (STC Husqvarna Racing), who will start Sunday's two points-scoring rounds as championship leader, secured fifth place in his group and will therefore be in a good grid position for the start of the race. His main title rival, the Belgian Jeffrey Dewulf (KTM Sarholz Racing Team), was slow off the line but increased his pace towards the end and also managed ultimately to finish fifth in his group.
In the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, Michi Sandner (Thermotec Racing KTM/Mefo Sport Racing Team) clinched his second pole position of the season and will thus be the first to select his place at the starting gate on Sunday. "The track is great, and I really got into my stride," said the Austrian, happy with his success. "The race also went well when I took pole at Bielstein, but that doesn't mean anything. I will definitely do my best and try to reach the finish line as far up the field as possible." Victory in the second qualifying group went to Richard Sikyna (JD Gunnex KTM Racing Team), who was also very positive about the Gaildorf track. "The circuit here is just phenomenal and real fun," said the Czech rider. "I'm very pleased with fastest time and hope that I can do as well again tomorrow. A great deal should be possible if I can get off to a good start." Jeremy Sydow (WZ-Racing/KTM) was the fastest German in the group. He led for quite a time but had to settle for second place in the end.
Lion Florian (KTM) qualified in P1 in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125. The Bavarian, who is sponsored by the ADAC Sports Foundation, fought a fierce battle with championship leader Filip Olsson (Team Diga-Procross/Husqvarna) and eventually managed to gain the upper hand. "It was not easy to post a really hot lap, but I succeeded and am proud of it," said the 16-year-old with a great deal of satisfaction. "I'll do my utmost to finish on the podium tomorrow." Third place went to Swiss rider Mike Gwerder (KTM) while Simon Längenfelder (Pfeil Husqvarna Junior Team) will start from P4 on Sunday.
The first points-scoring race in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 was held today, Saturday. Czech rider Radek Vetrovsky (JD Gunnex KTM Racing Team) posted the fastest lap in qualifying and was also able to take the lead from Liam Everts (KTM) at a very early stage in the race. Shortly after that, though, he was attacked by Camden Mc Lellan (Kosak Racing Team/KTM) but was able to hold his position until the closing stages of the race when lapping slower riders proved problematic for him. "I picked the wrong rut and got stuck briefly behind a backmarker and then Camden Mc Lellan suddenly went past," said Vetrovsky with some frustration. Mc Lellan seized his chance and eventually managed to pull out a small lead. "When I finally took P1, I didn't look behind me again and was able to secure victory at the finish line," said the South African, who extended his lead on Everts in the ADAC MX Junior Cup to 16 points. The Belgian did not have the best of days at Gaildorf and readily admitted it. "I didn't feel too good and was not able to match the pace of the front-runners. I hope that things will go better again tomorrow."
