The ADAC MX Masters will stage its third meet of the season in Germany’s far north this weekend (29th/30th June). For the third time in a row, the motocross series will hold its races close to the historic town at the club run by MSC Mölln with around 250 riders from over 25 countries in the line up. Riders will compete in four classes at the Grambeker Heidering to fight for victory on the day and championship points. The championship standings in the top ADAC MX Masters class look very interesting after the two races run so far. The Estonian Tanel Leok (A1M Husqvarna) leads the overall standings by just four points from Dennis Ullrich (Bodo Schmidt Motorsport/Husqvarna). The 34-year-old veteran rider has plenty of experience and is on top form. He has to be one of the top favourites even though he has not competed at Mölln in recent years. Ullrich is by no means a big fan of the sandy track, as he himself willingly admits, but the four-time Masters Champion is aiming to secure another title this year and will therefore go all-out to finish on the top rung of the podium.
Jens Getteman (Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Eleven) is only eight points behind Leok in the overall standings and is also very keen to do well in the races. "The championship is still wide open. The rider, who can consistently score points in every race, will have the edge in the end," said the Belgian, feeling very confident about the rest of the season. We still do not know at this stage whether Max Nagl (KTM Sarholz Racing Team) will be in the line-up following his injury last weekend.
We expect to see plenty of exciting races at Mölln in the three junior classes, the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 and ADAC MX Junior Cup 85. In the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, Rene Hofer (KTM Junior Racing Team) will be aiming to defend his lead on Cyril Genot (Genot Racing KTM Team) and Bastian Bogh Damm (WZ Racing/KTM). Jeremy Sydow (DIGA-Procross Husqvarna) had to miss the first round of wheel-to-wheel action at Fürthlich Drehna due to injury but is currently on top form and hopes to gain even more ground on the front-runners at Mölln after his double victory in Möggers.
Simon Längenfelder (WZ-Racing/KTM) and Mike Gwerder (KINI KTM Junior Pro Team) dominated proceedings in the first two ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 races at Fürstlich Drehna and Möggers. Längenfelder is on 97 points in the overall standings, leading from Swiss rider Gwerder, and intends to extend his lead at Mölln. Liam Everts (Team KTM Liamski), the son of ten-time motocross world champion Stefan Everts is in third place. The Latvian, Edvards Bidzans (MX Module/Husqvarna), has clearly dominated this year’s races in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85, having won all four races so far, and as a result, is once again favourite at Mölln. Tobias Caprani (Kosak Racing Team KTM) is next in second place. Julius Mikula (JD Gunnex KTM Racing Team) is third.
The races at Mölln should also prove interesting to local fans, since several riders from the area will line up in the three different classes. Davide von Zitzewitz (BvZ Racing Team/KTM) will be at the starting gate in the ADAC MX Masters class, looking forward to his appearance in front of a home crowd. Mike Stender (Kosak Racing Team/KTM) will wait until just before the weekend to decide whether he can compete in the race. "I broke my hand four weeks ago," he told us. "Of course I would love to ride for my fans here but will have to see how my hand feels."
MSC Mölln are pinning their hopes on Cooper Jensen (ADAC Team Hansa e.V./KTM) in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. He won the 2016 round of the ADAC MX National Finals and will line up on a wild card at the Grambeker Heidering. Two local heroes, Oscar Denzau (ADAC Hansa MX Junior Team/KTM) and Florian Wiese (Wiese Motorsport / KTM) will be contesting the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85. Twelve-year-old Denzau was recently named Sport Athlete of the Year by the city of Mölln and will be competing in the ADAC MX Masters for the first time. Wiese, on the other hand, has already had some experience of riding in the series, as this will be his third time in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85.
However, there will also be plenty on offer to keep fans entertained away from the track as the weekend progresses with a skydiving show on Sunday during the lunch break. MX rider and skydiver Daniel von Appen will bring four of his buddies to Mölln, who will jump straight out of a small plane at high altitude and land on the Grambeker Heidering’s main straight. The skydivers will have a surprise in store for spectators as they free fall. Families with children will have the Suzuki quad circuit and the ADAC Insurance children’s bouncy castle to keep them amused. An autograph-signing session will also take place at the ADAC Truck on Sunday afternoon from 11.45 am to 12.15 pm when the top stars from the ADAC MX Masters will be available to sign autographs and take selfies with fans. Tanel Leok, Jens Getteman, Dennis Ullrich and the two local favourites, Mike Stender and Davide von Zitzewitz, should be there.
Mölln is about 60 kilometres east of Hamburg and can be easily reached via the A24. Practice at the track will start at 9.00 am on both days. Racing on Sunday will commence at 10.30 am. A weekend ticket for adults costs 22 euros while fans only able to attend on one of the days will have to pay 12 euros on Saturday and 16 on Sunday. A weekend ticket for teenagers aged between 10 and 16 costs 11 euros. A day ticket for Saturday is priced at 6 euros and 8 for Sunday. Children under 10 are admitted for free.
