Czech teenager Martin Venhoda secured the championship win in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 before the last race in Tensfeld had even started after winning four of the six rounds and finishing runner-up twice. He also won the Red Bull Holeshot competition in his class. The 17-year-old rider has come on in leaps and bounds since finishing 16th in the championship in his first season on a 125 cc machine. Team NR83’s rider gave us this interview immediately after clinching the title.
Congratulations on winning the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125! How does it feel?
Martin Venhoda: Well, today has turned out to be just perfect! I had the championship wrapped up even before the last race had started, which was amazing.
Before the season began, did you set yourself the goal of winning the title?
No, I was a little bit surprised. My goal was to finish in the Top Three, but I’ve now won the championship. Perfect!
What's the secret of your success?
I trained on sand all winter long. The circuits for the championship, Tensfeld and Grevenbroich, were both sandy. I think that's one of the reasons.
You moved to Belgium this winter to join Nathan Renkens and his outfit, NR83. How has it gone?
It's helped me a lot. I feel much more comfortable on the bike now. I've also been able to improve and get physically stronger. I'm heading in the right direction.
What future plans do you have?
I've still got to finish the EMX125 season and will switch to 250cc four-stroke bikes next year. I also plan to compete in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup alongside riding in the EMX250.
How important is it to compete in a race series like the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125?
It's vital, as it enables you to go up against strong competition. Plus, it can help you a lot mentally if you’re able to win the races there by a decent margin.
How did you get into motocross?
I started when I was 5. I told my dad I wanted a motorbike and he got me one, which is weird, because no one in the family had ever ridden a motocross bike before.
What do you hope to achieve in motocross?
I would like to ride MXGP in a works team and achieve good results.
Do you still go to school?
Yes, I'm 17 now but still go to school, although not very often. I live in Belgium and attend school in the Czech Republic. I only go there once a month. I ride my bike most of the time and train.
Martin, we wish you all the best and every success.
Many thanks! I would also like to say a big 'thank you' to my team and to everyone who has supported me along the way.
