On the second day of the Grevenbroich race meeting, Jordi Tixier repeated his victory from Saturday's opener as he notched up another race success and took the overall lead in the ADAC MX Masters standings. Despite technical problems with the clutch on his bike, the Frenchman was able to take P1 from speedy starter Brent van Doninck over the final stages of the second race, just as he had done yesterday, and it was only in the third race that Sarholz KTM's man was beaten by race winner, Harri Kullas, and van Doninck. "The second round was tough and I didn't expect to be able to win, as I was experiencing clutch problems," said Tixier. "I used the only place where I was faster to overtake Brent. My start in the third race was not brilliant and then I felt tired. Kullas and van Doninck were too far away by the time I'd got back into my stride. I'm pleased with my overall victory and am looking forward to racing at Tensfeld." Brent van Doninck from Becker Racing Team was not completely satisfied with his three second places, even though his results made him the most consistent rider in the field. "My starts were always good and I was in the lead for quite a long time yesterday and in the first race again today," he said. "So, to be honest, I'm a bit disappointed, because I really wanted to win, but still, I'm not totally dissatisfied, having only decided to enter at very short notice," he added.
After finishing fourth and third in the first two points-scoring races, Harri Kullas on the Cab Screens Deos Group Honda did even better in the final race of the day and achieved a lights-to-flag victory on the sandy track after taking the Red Bull holeshot. "I had problems yesterday but was able to find a good setup for today, made some decent starts and rode well," he said. "After the second race, I knew that I could still win today, but it was exhausting."
After a strong fight back yesterday in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, Maximilan Spies made two more charges up the field to take overall victory on the day. First off, the German won the Red Bull holeshot in Race 2 and was then not seen again subsequently by his opponents. Earlier on, over the first lap of the race, the Husqvarna Junior Madii Racing rider had pulled clear of Lion Florian and Noah Ludwig, who were chasing him. In the third round, Spies made life much more difficult for himself after colliding with another rider in the first turn and was last-but-one as he set off again. However, showing a cracking turn of speed, he was back in the Top Ten by the end of the second lap. Spies moved up into third place, which earned him his first overall victory in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. "I have finally managed to bring out the best in me," said the winner with a big, beaming smile. "After securing the holeshot in the second round, I was then able to lead this high class field in a race for the first time, but at first, I didn't really know what to do," he said. "I then decided to just open the throttle wide. After falling in the third race, I knew that I had to finish in the Top Three and went all-out." He's feeling confident about Tensfeld, adding: "I want to defend the Red Plate and win the title, that's the goal!"
Lion Florian from WZ Racing KTM secured second place overall with two second places on Sunday and produced some impressive, excellent starts that even earned him a Red Bull holeshot. "Today was almost perfect," he said. "I pulled myself together today after not being able to quite find my rhythm yesterday and put my trainer's tips into practice. I was fluid and had the speed today and now intend to win at Tensfeld."
By winning the third race, Rick Elzinga secured the last place on the overall podium, just one point ahead of Saturday's race winner, Jörgen-Matthias Talviku. Elzinga had fallen while in a promising position the day before but made up for his mistake with a race win and third place in Race 2.
The result in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 was really exciting, because in Race 2, the Swede, Max Palsson from WZ Racing, was able to beat Saturday's race winner Martin Venhoda on the NR83 KTM. And so, the two of them started the decisive third round level on points and over the course of a lap, fought a scrap that was really worth watching. Venhoda took the Red Bull holeshot, but Palsson stuck to the Czech's rear-wheel and maintained the pressure by attacking continuously. His attacks were successful towards the middle of the race and Palsson was able to take the lead which he kept until the finish. "It was a tough day and a real hard struggle," he told us. "Martin rode really well, but I found a couple of good lines behind him that I was able to use. It's so nice to win."
German rider, Cato Nickel, took third place overall. The team-mate of the overall winner finished third as he had done yesterday in the first race of the day. It was only after a bad start in the third round that he didn't do so well, but despite coming home in P11, it was enough to enable him to finish third overall ahead of Constantin Piller, who managed to clinch third place in the last race. "I would never have expected such a good result before coming to Grevenbroich," said Nickel with surprise. "I sprained my finger in the first round today and then had to ignore the pain and just ride, but it was worth the effort. Obviously, my focus is now on Tensfeld."
Julius Mikula dominated proceedings in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 on the second day of the event. Saturday's race winner won through again with a supreme victory. He took the lead on the first lap and controlled the field behind him despite having clutch problems. "I love sand and really like this track," he said. "My clutch wasn't working properly today, but luckily, I didn't need it all that much in the sand. At Tensfeld, I'll simply try to do what I did here today." Bradley Mesters finished second as he had done the previous day and that brought him up into second place overall. Following Maximilian Werner's fall at the start, Mesters was able to stay safe and pace himself in the race. "I made too many mistakes ultimately, but second place is okay. I like the deep sand here."
Maximilan Werner fought his way up into seventh place after some bad luck during the initial stages of the race, and that saw him through into third place in the overall standings. "I'm proud of my performance," he said. "I've got excruciating back pain after falling at the end of qualifying yesterday. A win would obviously have been better, but a place in the Top Three was my goal before the weekend."
