Nagl tops the championship after his double win. Maxime Grau takes victory in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. Vitezslav Marek wins in the ADAC MX Junior Cup.
There was plenty of variety on offer for the riders and spectators alike at the race weekend in Bielstein: from sunshine and perfect track conditions on Saturday and Sunday morning, to weather chaos and heavy rainfall on Sunday afternoon. A massive thunderstorm at the start of the second race in the ADAC MX Masters class led to the race being suspended, as the sheer volume of water made for dangerous track conditions. The riders initially refused a restart, but it was then possible to go racing again after a slight delay and some work on the track. However, race three did have to be cancelled. Max Nagl came out on top in Saturday’s opening race, which took place in ideal track conditions at the Bielsteiner Waldkurs, and backed this up with a start-finish victory in a wet race on Sunday. Nagl had previously secured pole position in qualifying. A maximum points haul sees the Husqvarna rider from the Krettek Haas Racing team top the table at the start of the new season.
“I am very happy with my riding. Both starts were great and were instrumental in winning the races. Yesterday, Jordi put me under a lot of pressure from the start and the race was very tiring, but also a lot of fun. Today, it was the right decision to complete the second race and I would like to apologise to all the fans and the organiser for the delay,” said Nagl after his success.
Jordi Tixier clung to Nagl’s rear wheel throughout the whole of race one on Saturday, but the Frenchman was unable to find a way past him and into the lead. In race two, the reigning ADAC MX Masters champion on the Sarholz KTM overtook Dennis Ullrich to take third place just a few laps into the race, and held onto that position through to the finish. Tixier slots into second place in the overall standings after the opening race weekend.
Karlis Sabulis produced a strong performance in Bielstein to underline the fact that second place in last season’s championship was no fluke. The Husqvarna rider from the MX MODULS team laid the foundations for his third place in the overall standings with fifth place on Saturday. The Latvian was particularly impressive in wet conditions and rode a controlled race from the start to take second place. Dennis Ullrich returned to the championship, after an injury-induced break in the 2020 season, with fourth and fifth place, putting him fourth in the overall standings. Tom Koch started the event with a strong third place. He was then forced into the pits to change his goggles in Sunday’s rain-dominated race, resulting in him losing a number of places. Koch eventually had to settle for tenth place. He lies fifth in the championship, level on points with Jérémy Delincé.
ADAC MX Youngster Cup
The races in the ADAC MX Younster Cup were exciting affairs with three different winners, in the form of Noah Ludwig, Maxime Grau and Maximilian Spies. Ludwig, from the Becker Racing team, started the season in this class with a start-finish victory in perfect conditions on Saturday. This was his first win in this class. On Sunday, it was Grau’s turn to lead from start to finish, having got the Red Bull Holeshot in race two. In the muddy third race, reigning champion Maximilian Spies was the fastest out of the start gates on the Fantic two-stroke. Over the course of the race, he was able to pull clear of Grau and take his first race win of the season. Grau tops the overall standings after a fourth, first and second place. He is followed by Austrian Marcel Stauffer, who caught the eye with two runner-up finishes and a fourth place, with Spies third (tenth, third and first).
“It was a really good weekend for me. The Holeshot in race two made it easy to manage and win the race. I am happy to be leading the championship thanks to the consistent results,” said Grau, who rides for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team.
The winner of the opening race, Noah Ludwig, made a poor start in race two and eventually came home eleventh. Sixth place in race three puts him fourth overall. Rounding out the top ten is Liam Everts, who finished third in race one.
ADAC MX Junior Cup
Heavy rainfall led to race three being cancelled for the youngest riders. The two races that did go ahead were won by Hungary’s Noel Zanocz and Czech rider Viteczlav Marek. Zanocz led Saturday’s opening race from start to finish on his Sarholz KTM, taking the victory ahead of Marek and Latvian Janis Martins Reisulis. On Sunday, Marek led Russia’s Semen Rybakov and Zanocz home. Marek tops the table after the opening event, ahead of Zanocz and Reisulis. The best-placed German was Linus Jung, who is eight overall after a ninth and a tenth place.
All of the races from both days of the event can be watched free of charge as a re-livestream or individually via Playlists ADAC MX Masters Bielstein. All the weekend’s results can be found at ADAC MX Masters Homepage. The next ADAC MX Masters event takes place on 17th and 18th July in Tensfeld.
