Summery temperatures and deep sand put the riders to the test at round two of the ADAC MX Masters in Tensfeld. As well as the ADAC MX Masters and ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 classes, the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 also rolled out of the start gates for the first time this season. The opening races in the three classes ended with victories for Max Nagl, Scott Smulders and Levi Schrik.
Tensfeld marks the 250th ADAC MX Masters event. Warm temperatures and deep sand asked some real questions of the riders in all three classes, but the track crew at MCE Tensfeld e.V. had the conditions under control at all times.
ADAC MX Masters
Max Nagl continued his winning run from Bielstein in Tensfeld. Dmitry Asmanov got the Red Bull Holeshot and led the race until Jérémy Delincé passed him on lap four. However, the Belgian’s lead only lasted three laps, before Nagl moved to the head of the field on his Husqvarna. Meanwhile, pole-sitter Tom Koch climbed from seventh to third place and looked like making more progress towards the front. However, the positions were far from set in stone by the halfway point of the race. Reigning ADAC MX Masters Champion Jordi Tixier now went on the charge and slotted in behind Nagl in the second half of the race, while Koch lost a little momentum. However, with four laps remaining, the Frenchman lost his front wheel and hit the deck. This allowed Nagl to comfortably pick up his third win of the season. Tixier quickly recovered from his crash and forced his way past Delincé to take second place again on the final lap. Tom Koch struggled with cramp in his forearms and eventually finished fifth after Cyril Genot overtook him on the last lap.
“It was a difficult race. After a good start, I waited a little before I went on the attack. However, when I was in the lead, I really had to fight to stay there. I am delighted that I did enough to get the win,” said Nagl, who has scored maximum points at this early stage of the season.
ADAC MX Junior Cup 125
This season’s ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 kicked off with an exciting opening race. The Red Bull Holeshot went to Germany’s Leon Rudolph. Shortly before the end of the first lap, Scott Smulders moved to the front before continuously extending his lead and eventually taking the chequered flag. However, the positions behind the Dutchman were fiercely contested. Reigning ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 champion Bradley Mesters initially put Rudolph under pressure, but could feel Constantin Piller breathing down his neck. Mesters got into trouble on lap seven and was first passed by Piller before dropping out completely. Piller now applied some pressure to Rudolph, until he too crashed out of the race one lap later. This left Rudolph free to take second place, ahead of Denmark’s Magnus Gregersen, Maximilian Werner and Latvian Roberts Lusis.
“I was third after the start, from where I was soon able to make my way to the front and then simply ride a good race. I plan to contest the full series and am intrigued to see where I end up,” said Smulders after the race.
ADAC MX Junior Cup 85
As expected, it was the Dutch riders who dominated proceedings in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 in Tensfeld. Levi Schrik made the best start and went on to take a victory that never really looked under threat. Behind him, a battle was raging between Dutchman Gyan Doensen and the overall winner from Bielstein, Viteszlav Marek. Only in the second half of the race was Doensen able to pull clear of the Czech rider a little. Marek came under pressure from Semen Rybakov at the end of the race, but was able to hold on to third place, ahead of Rybakov and Marius Adomaitis
“That is awesome. After the Holeshot, the entire race went perfectly for me. Tomorrow, I will do my best and hope for a similarly good result,” said Schrik at the finish.
