Jordi Tixier, Maximilian Spies, Scott Smulders and Janis Reisulis taste victory as ADAC MX Masters debuts in Dreetz. All four classes, ADAC MX Masters, ADAC MX Youngster Cup, ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 and ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 appear together at an event for the first time this season. Warm temperatures and deep sand prove challenging for all riders.
On the first day of the ADAC MX Masters in Dreetz, Brandenburg, Jordi Tixier takes advantage of the absence of championship leader Max Nagl due to injury, securing the win and cutting the gap to just eight points. The KTM Sarholz Racing rider replaced Red Bull Holeshot winner Cyril Genot in the lead after four laps. As the race progressed, the reigning ADAC MX Masters champion was able to move smoothly away from the rest of the field, with not even an error preventing him from claiming a dominant win.
Genot, the KMP Honda Racing riders Gert Krestinov and Jérémy Delincé and Dutchman Lars Van Berkel were involved in their own battles behind him. Genot was able to fend off the persistent attacks from the chasing pack, crossing the line in second place just ahead of Van Berkel and Krestinov. Tom Koch had been fastest in practice, but he had to concentrate on chasing after a poor start was followed by a fall on lap one. It was a real feat to snatch fifth place from Delincé on the final lap of the race and claw back some more lost points.
"I was able to manage the race well and conserve my energy after I pulled away a bit in the lead. The circuit is very challenging and it's easy to make mistakes. It will be a hard day tomorrow, but I am pleased and I am a little more confident now,” said Tixier after his win.
ADAC MX Youngster Cup
After pausing for one event, the ADAC MX Youngster Cup returned to the starting grid in Dreetz. After Noah Ludwig claimed the Red Bull Holeshot on the Becker Racing-KTM for the second time this season, reigning champion Maximilian Spies from the Maddii Racing Fantic Factory team was able to oust him and move into the lead. Spies was able to gradually pull away from the rest of the field on the two-stroke motorbike, while table-topper Maxime Grau had to work his way up from the back after a fall. On lap four, South African rider Camden McLellan moved into third place on his Husqvarna for the BT Racing Team, before taking second place from Ludwig in the closing phase. Marnique Appelt produced a consistent racing performance to finish fourth, ahead of Austrian rider Marcel Stauffer. Grau concluded his chase in 12th place.
“The circuit deteriorated significantly and the tracks were getting worse by the end of the race, so it was not easy for me to lap some rider. I was also not satisfied with my performance and made some mistakes. I will try to do better tomorrow,” said Spies in a critical analysis after his win.
ADAC MX Junior Cup 125
The first race in Dreetz sees Dutch rider Scott Smulders continue his unbeaten record in all races in which he has appeared so far in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125. A clear start-finish win enabled him to more than make up the three-point gap to previous table-topper Maximilian Werner, who finished sixth in Dreetz. Some great battles developed for the positions behind Smulders. Roberts Lusis moved past Sem De Lange after a few laps to claim second place. However, just after the halfway point of the race, Lusis had to yield to increasing pressure from Constantin Piller on the KTM from the Kosak Racing team. In Piller’s slipstream, reigning ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 champion Bradley Mesters moved up through the field and applied significant pressure as the end of the race approached. However, Piller stayed calm to cross the finishing line in second place ahead of Mesters, Lusis and De Lange.
“I was ill this week and had a few breathing problems,” revealed Smulders after the race. “That's why I tried to build up a lead quickly after the Holeshot, to allow me to keep the race and my energy levels under control.”
ADAC MX Junior Cup 85
In the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85, Dutch rider Lotte Van Drunen made history in qualifying by becoming the first female rider ever to claim pole position. The Holeshot in the event went to Markuss Ozolins. Van Drunen and Janis Reisulis were breathing down Ozolins’ neck as the top three pulled away from the rest of the field. After an error from Van Drunen, she collided with Reisulis and both riders took a tumble. Gyan Doensen and Noel Zanocz now assumed the chasing roles, cutting the gap to Ozolins. The tension mounted as Van Drunen and Reisulis moved back towards the leading trio. In the second half of the race, Reisulis managed to leap from fourth to second place within one lap, but that was not to mark the end of his journey. The Latvian rider continued to apply pressure on the Motofavorits-KTM. Ozolins had to relinquish the lead four laps from the end, while Noel Zanocz had continued his progress to reach third position. Reisulis then celebrated a well-deserved victory ahead of Ozolins, Zanocs, Doensen, Van Drunen and leader Viteszlav Marek, who produced an unremarkable performance.
“After a good start, I had a collision with Lotte after a few laps. But I felt that I had the energy and the tempo to go on the attack and get back to the front. I am happy that I still managed to claim the win,” said race winner Reisulis.
