Tixier extends his lead in the ADAC MX Masters in Fürstlich Drehna

Jordi Tixier takes victory, ahead of Cyril Genot and Max Nagl. First race win for Tom Koch. Fantastic atmosphere among the big crowd.

Fürstlich Drehna. Reigning champion Jordi Tixier (FRA) took overall victory in the penultimate race of the ADAC MX Masters in front of 7,300 fans in Fürstlich Drehna. In doing so, he extended his lead in the championship. The KTM Sarholz Racing Team rider had won the opening race in Brandenburg on Saturday. Victory in the two Sunday races, in front of a sell-out crowd, went to Max Nagl (GER) and Tom Koch (GER). Cyril Genot (BEL) finished second overall to keep his title hopes alive, while Koch and Nagl also go into the finale in Reutlingen in one week’s time with title aspirations.

Jordi Tixier, on the Sarholz Racing Team KTM, won the opening race of round four of the ADAC MX Masters on the sand track in Fürstlich Drehna on Saturday. He soon passed Nathan Renkens (BEL) – winner of the Red Bull Holeshot – to take the lead. Cyril Genot and Tom Koch, who had previously secured pole position as LS2 Best Qualifier for the third time in a row, also passed Renkens early in the race. The leading trio initially pulled clear of the field together. However, as the race progressed, Tixier was able to shake off the attentions of Genot, who himself managed to distance Koch on the Kosak Racing Team KTM. They crossed the finish line in that order, followed by KMP Honda Racing riders Jérémy Delincé (BEL) and Gert Krestinov (EST), as well as Mike Stender (GER) on the SHR Motorsports Yamaha. Following a crash at the start, Max Nagl fought his way from the back of the field to finish ninth on the Husqvarna of the Krettek-Haas-Racing-Team.

On Sunday, Nagl got away fastest and sprinted over the Red Bull Holeshot line first in race two of the weekend. Nagl had travelled to Brandenburg with three broken ribs, but courageously pushed himself on his bike and, despite being in pain, managed to keep his pursuers Tixier and Genot at bay throughout the entire race. Micha Boy De Waal (NED) from the Jumbo-Husqvarna-BT-Racing Team and Toms Macuks (LAT) on the Castrol Power 1-Motobase Concept KTM rounded off the top five, while Tom Koch had to settle for eighth place behind Stefan Ekerold (GER) after a poor start that saw him drop back into the midfield.

Nagl was quick out of the start gate again in race three and took the lead ahead of Koch. Ekerold thrilled the fans when he passed Bastian Bogh Damm (DEN) from the WZ Racing Team to take third place on his Husqvarna for the Bauerschmidt BM33 team. That overtake made it three German riders in the first three positions. One lap later, Koch went on the attack and took the lead from Nagl. Meanwhile, Tixier and Genot consistently worked their way through the field, having started towards the front of the midfield. Koch gradually pulled clear of Nagl and went on to take the first race win of his career in the ADAC MX Masters. Ekerold eventually surrendered third place to Tixier in the final third of the race, having put up a spirited defence. Shortly after that, he was also passed by Genot and Macuks. In the event standings, victory went to Tixier ahead of Genot and Nagl.

“This weekend, I felt good on the bike from the word go, having changed a few things after Dreetz. The track was pretty cut up and challenging at the end. In the final race, the gate came down sooner than expected, which meant I did not get off to the ideal start. However, with the title race in mind, I gave it my all – even though it was not easy. It was great to race in front of full stands here. That was really good fun. I am now concentrating on the finale in Reutlingen,” said Tixier after his success.

“The two holeshots today really helped me, as it allowed me to pace the races better. After ten minutes, I was in extreme pain. However, the adrenalin and the super atmosphere generated by the fans helped me to keep on fighting. In the third race, I wanted to attack Tom again, but I had clutch issues towards the end of the race. However, I am happy to be on the podium here, as I did not know ahead of the weekend whether I would manage to make it through all the races,” said Nagl, who was returning to action after missing the previous event.

“Finally, everything came together and I was able to convert my qualifying pace into a race win. I want to carry this momentum into the event in Reutlingen,” said a delighted Tom Koch after his victory in race three.

Tixier extended his lead over Genot, Koch and Nagl in the championship. All four riders still have title aspirations going into the finale in Reutlingen this weekend.
