Guillem Farres crowned ADAC MX Youngster Cup champion with races to spare

Guillem Farres wraps up the title in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup in Holzerlingen. Julius Mikula completes a hat-trick in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125. Gyan Doensen wins the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85.

Guillem Farres (E/Raths Motorsports) won the event standings and was crowned champion in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup at the penultimate round of the ADAC MX Masters. In the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125, Julius Mikula (CZ) overcame a strong field to claim three race wins in front of 10,000 fans over the course of the weekend in Holzgerlingen. Ivano Van Erp (NL/SHR Motorsports) remains the championship leader, despite twice failing to score points. Junior World Champion, Gyan Doensen (NL/Husqvarna SKS-Racing NL Team), was victorious again in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85. Jayson Van Drunen (NL/SHR Motorsports Yamaha Motor Europe) moved to the top of the table.

ADAC MX Youngster Cup

Guillem Farres was the overall winner in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup in Holzgerlingen, without taking a single victory in the three races. The Spaniard was focussed on maintaining his lead at the top of the table, without taking too many risks. This proved to be the right strategy for the KTM rider, as two runner-up finishes and a third place in the final race made him the most consistent rider and saw him score the most points. The day victory saw him extend his lead in the championship to 76 points, meaning he can no longer be caught at the season finale in Fürstlich Drehna and is therefore the 2022 ADAC MX Youngster Cup champion with races still to come. Maximilian Spies (D/Schmicker Racing) was the LS2 Best Qualifier, but struggled in the opening race on Saturday and could do no better than eighth place. Spies took the lead shortly before the end of race two, when Farres and Maxime Grau (F/Neestan Husqvarna Factory Racing) both crashed within two corners, through nobody’s fault but their own. The German went on to take the race win. Spies then ended race three in second place, behind Camden Mc Lellan (ZA/TBS Conversions KTM Racing Team), who led from start to finish. Having finished third on Saturday, Mc Lellan failed to finish race two, meaning he would no longer play a role in the battle for the overall podium. Noah Ludwig (D/Becker Racing) finished tied on points with Spies in third place in the overall standings. Ludwig celebrated his 18th birthday on Saturday with a lights-to-flag victory in the opening race. He followed that up with third and sixth place on Sunday. Behind Farres, Spies and Ludwig, Meico Vettik (EST/MX-Handel Racing) ended the weekend ahead of Mc Lellan in fourth place, courtesy of consistent top-five finishes.

“I am pleased to have wrapped up the championship here in Holzgerlingen. This weekend, I did what was necessary to secure the title and avoided taking any big risks. In race three, I knew the points situation, so I simply followed Mc Lellan and Spies and tried to avoid making mistakes. Shortly before the start of the season, I did not have a bike and didn’t know how the year would continue. Then Raths Motorsports accepted me into the team and I have had a fantastic season. I am very grateful for that,” said Guillem Farres after securing the title with races to spare.

ADAC MX Junior Cup 125

After a break in racing, the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 returned to action in Holzgerlingen. Julius Mikula triumphed with three race wins on the challenging track, but was made to work hard for his success. Bence Pergel (HU/HTS Team) won two of the three Red Bull Holeshots and set a fast pace at the front, but Mikula found a way past the Hungarian in both races. Mikula spared himself the effort of overtaking in race two, which he led from start to finish. Pergel finished runner-up in the first two races, and was only denied another second place in the final race when he was overtaken by LS2 Best Qualifier Janis Martins Reisulis (LV/Hamstra MX Team) with two laps remaining. The Latvian came home third in the opening race, but had to settle for tenth place in race two following a crash. In the overall standings, Reisulis narrowly missed out on the podium, finishing just behind Mikula, Pergel and Vitaszlav Marek (CZ), who was fourth in all three races. Maximilian Ernecker (A/AMX Racing) ended the weekend in fifth place overall. The weekend did not go to plan at all for championship leader and newly-crowned Junior World Champion, Ivano Van Erp. In the penultimate lap of Saturday’s opening race, he was involved in a spectacular crash with Reisulis and was unable to complete the race. He came home third in race two, but a faulty rear brake meant he failed to score points again in the final race. Van Erp still tops the table, but his lead over Reisulis has shrunk to nine points.

ADAC MX Junior Cup 85

The ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 held two races in Holzgerlingen. On Saturday, Junior World Champion Gyan Doensen claimed a lights-to-flag victory having previously out-qualified the rest of the field by more than four seconds to become earn the title of LS2 Best Qualifier. As has been the story in recent races, he was followed home by Áron Katona (HU/HTS Team) and Dex Kooiker (NL/Bloody Harry Energy-RGS MX Team). Jayson Van Drunen was running second for one lap in the middle of the race, but had dropped back to fifth place behind Dani Heitink (NL/heitinktransport.nl) by the finish. Championship leader Jonathan Frank (D/Schmicker Racing) could do no better than ninth. In race two, Mick Kennedy (NL/Motocross AAD) was the first to speed over the Red Bull Holeshot line and led for the rest of the race to take a controlled victory. The trio at the top of the table – Frank, Katona and Maxime Lucas (B/Becker Racing) – found themselves at the back of the field after the start and had to launch a fightback. Kooiker initially slotted into second place behind Kennedy, but was forced to retire in the middle of the race. Van Drunen took up the chase ahead of Doensen, who hit the deck around the midway point of the race and rejoined the race in fourth place, behind Heitink and ahead of Raivo Laicans (LV/Sturm STC Racing). This order remained the same through to the finish. Lucas and Katona’s fightbacks ended in 12th and 13th place, while Frank was disqualified for failing to observe track limits. Doensen came out on top in the event standings, ahead of Kennedy, Van Drunen, Heitink and Katona. Third place at the weekend catapulted Van Drunen from fourth to first place in the championship. He holds a four-point lead over Katona, Lucas, Frank and Doensen.
