Max Nagl is crowned ADAC MX Masters champion for the third time. Maximilian Spies wins race one of the ADAC MX Youngster Cup in Fürstlich Drehna. Janis Martins Reisulis moves to the top of the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 table. Maxime Lucas closes the gap to Jason Van Drunen in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85
It took Max Nagl (D/Krettek-Haas-Racing-Team) just one race to be crowned 2022 ADAC MX Masters champion at the season finale in Fürstlich Drehna. In the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, Maximilian Spies (D/Schmicker Racing) claimed a commanding victory. A race win for Janis Martins Reisulis (LV/Hamstra MX Team) saw the Latvian move to the top of the table in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125, following the retirement of Ivano Van Erp (NL/SHR Motorsports). Gyan Doensen (NL/Husqvarna SKS-Racing NL Team) won race one in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85.
ADAC MX Masters
The opening ADAC MX Masters race saw championship leader Max Nagl sprint to the Red Bull Holeshot, ahead of the three KTM Sarhozl Racing Team riders Adam Sterry (GB), Jordi Tixier (F), LS2 Best Qualifier Henry Jacobi (D), and Stefan Ekerold (D/Team Bauerschmidt MB33). Jacobi crashed on lap one, allowing Tom Koch (D/Kosak Racing Team) to climb into the top five. Nagl set about gradually extending his lead, without ever really pulling clear of the rest of the field. There was no change in position in the first two thirds of the race, until Tixier overtook Sterry. Two laps later, Jacobi, who crashed another twice over the course of the race, passed Koch to take fifth place. With four laps remaining, Nagl found himself stuck in traffic as he attempted to lap riders. Tixier took advantage and moved into the lead. Nagl stayed on the Frenchman’s heels until the finish, but without being able to launch a meaningful attack. Second place, behind Tixier and ahead of Sterry, was enough to earn Nagl his third ADAC MX Masters title on the opening day of the season finale, 14 years after his last title win in 2008.
“Mega! It has taken a few years, but winning this championship feels all the better for it. I am particularly pleased to have been crowned champion together with the Krettek-Haas-Racing-Team. I’m not done yet and will be back next year,” said a delighted and moved Max Nagl at the finish.
ADAC MX Youngster Cup
Marnique Appelt (D/Raths Motorsports) took the Red Bull Holeshot in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, ahead of Cato Nickel (D/WZ-Racing), Noah Ludwig (D/Becker Racing) and local favourite Maximilian Spies, who was also the LS2 Best Qualifier. Nickel crashed at the end of the opening lap, allowing Spies to take the lead on lap two, followed by Ludwig and Francisco Garcia (E/SB KTM Racing). Spies consistently extended his lead, while Ludwig also built up a comfortable cushion ahead of the rest of the field. In the final third of the race, Jens Walvoort (NL/Motor 2000 KTM Racing Team) overtook Appelt to take fourth place. Appelt also came under pressure from the storming Nickel towards the end of the race, but was able to hang on to finish fifth. Spies triumphed, ahead of Ludwig, Garcia, Walvoort and Appelt. Guillem Farres (E/Raths Motorsports), who had already been crowned 2022 champion in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, did not start in Fürstlich Drehna, due to contractual obligations with his new team for the 2023 season.
“The rain made the track very technical and different to the morning’s qualifying session. It was pretty deep in some places. However, I took a commanding and controlled victory. Hopefully there is more of that to come tomorrow,” said Spies, who then announced that he would be moving to the KTM Kosak Racing team in the ADAC MX Masters class in 2023.
ADAC MX Junior Cup 125
In race one of the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125, Eric Rakow (D/Schmicker Racing) was the first across the Red Bull Holeshot line. However, Rakow then lost the lead on lap two to Janis Martins Reisulis. Championship leader Ivano Van Erp found himself third, ahead of Roberts Lusis (LV/Sturm STC Racing) and Vitaszlav Marek (CZ). Van Erp briefly moved into second place on lap seven, before his bike gave up the ghost with a faulty ignition. Reisulis went on to take a comfortable victory, which also saw him climb to the top of the overall standings with two races remaining. Rakow was runner-up, ahead of Marek, Lusis and Maximilian Werner (D/DIGA Procross KTM Racing).
“I did not get out of the gate so well, but came through well in the first few corners. After a few sprint laps, I took the lead and then managed to control the race, despite a slight arm pump. I was not aware of Van Erp’s retirement, but am happy to lead the championship going into tomorrow’s races,” said Reisulis after the race.
ADAC MX Junior Cup 85
Moritz Ernecker (A/AMX Racing) took the Red Bull Holeshot in race one of the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85. However, he was replaced at the head of the field by junior world champion Gyan Doensen before the end of the opening lap. Shortly after that, Maxime Lucas (B/Becker Racing) moved into second place. On lap three, title contenders Áron Katona (HU/HTS Team) and Jonathan Frank (D/Schmicker Racing) crashed whilst running in the top five and consequently dropped well down the field. Meanwhile, Doensen gradually opened a lead out in front. By the halfway point of the race, championship leader Jayson Van Drunen (NL/SHR Motorsports Yamaha Motor Europe) had climbed into third place, but then fell back to sixth again. Doensen took victory, ahead of Lucas, Dex Kooiker (NL/Bloody Harry Energy RGS MX Team), Dani Heitink (NL/Heitinktransport.nl) and Jacob Bloch (DK/Becker Racing). Frank had to settle for 13th place, while Katona finished outside the points. In the table, Van Drunen holds a six-point lead over Lucas going into Sunday’s final race of the season.
“I had a good start, took an early lead, and was able to control the race,” said a satisfied Doensen after his race win.
