Max Nagl wins all three races. Jordi Tixier is second, ahead of Tom Koch. Enthralled fans follow the races against a dream backdrop.
Max Nagl (DEU/Krettek-Haas-Racing-Team) picked up maximum points in front of 8,500 enthusiastic fans to extend his championship lead at round four of the ADAC MX Masters in Tensfeld at the weekend. Jordi Tixier (FRA/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) managed to limit the damage done in the championship, courtesy of three second-place finishes. Tom Koch’s (DEU/Kosak Racing Team) improvement in form continued with third place overall.
The opening race on Saturday afternoon saw Husqvarna rider Max Nagl cross the Red Bull Holeshot line first in the ADAC MX Masters class, having previously been the LS2 Best Qualifier for the first time this season. His closest rival, Jordi Tixier, stuck to the heels of the championship leader. Tom Koch passed Nichlas Bjerregard (DNK/SHR Motorsports) on lap three to move into third place. On the same lap, Gianluca Ecca (DEU/Team Bauerschmidt MB 33) was unable to defend fifth place against Roan Van de Moosdijk (NDL/Neestan Husqvarna Factory Racing). The leaders soon splintered and the front three each had a lonely race after a few laps. In the final third of the race, Van de Moosdijk and Bjerregard swapped places. Nagl triumphed with a lights-to-flag victory, ahead of Tixier, Koch, Van de Moosdijk and Bjerregard. Lukas Platt (DEU/DW-Racing/KS Performance Fantic) came home sixth to claim his best result of 2022.
In race two on Sunday, Nagl was initially beaten off the line by Bjerregard, but had regained the lead by the end of the opening lap. Over the following laps, the Dane was also passed by Tixier, Adam Sterry (GBR/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) and Koch. The positions at the front of the field were soon laid claim to, and the riders comfortably held onto their positions through to the finish. Van de Moosdijk consistently worked his way through the field from eleventh on the 250 cc four-stroke Husqvarna. Around the halfway point of the race, he overtook Bjerregard to take his place in the top five. Nagl won, ahead of Tixier, Sterry, Koch and Van de Moosdijk. Tim Koch (DEU/Team AB-Racing by Zweiradsport Schmitz) battled his way to his best result of the season in sixth place.
Nagl took the Red Bull Holeshot in race three, but was then immediately overtaken by Sterry. The Briton’s lead lasted just one lap, before Nagl returned to his familiar position at the head of the field. Tixier and Tom Koch passed Sterry on lap three. Once again, the positions were soon well established and remained the same through to the finish, although Tixier did manage to close in on Nagl. Behind the top four, Kevin Brumann (CHE/iXS hostettler Yamaha MXGP Team) initially found himself running fifth. Midway through the race was he overtaken by Van de Moosdijk, and then proceeded to crash out of the race. Nagl took victory number three of the weekend, followed by Tixier, Tom Koch, Sterry and Van de Moosdijk.
Nagl also topped the event standings, ahead of Tixier and Koch, with Sterry and Van de Moosdijk rounding out the top five. Nagl thus extended his lead in the championship over Tixier, Tom Koch and Sterry. Tim Koch’s three top-ten results in Tensfeld saw him leapfrog ahead of Stefan Ekerold (DEU/Team Bauerschmidt MB 33), who twice failed to finish due to technical issues, into fifth place in the table.
“That was a super weekend. I had excellent starts, after working on the bike in this area over the past week. The race pace was high and my opponents rode strongly. It is going well at the moment, and I am trying to maintain this momentum as long as possible. However, a lot of work goes into achieving this success,” said a satisfied Nagl.
“My starts are getting better all the time, which is making it easier for me in the races. Max is riding very well at the moment and fresh. My outings in MXGP and the ADAC MX Masters mean I have a busy schedule. However, I am really enjoying riding at the moment, and that is the key to success,” said Tixier confidently.
“The race in Tensfeld is a challenge and tiring every year. However, we had excellent conditions for racing this weekend. I have found a better set-up for my bike, was able to match the pace at the front for a while, and felt comfortable doing so. I am moving in the right direction, and want to back that up in the coming races,” said Tom Koch.
