Team effort to be rewarded in ADAC MX Masters. New teams line up in 2022. Team Championship with prize purse of € 10,000.
On the surface, Motocross looks for all the world to be an individual sport, in which individual athletes go head to head in direct competition with their opponents on two wheels. Far from it: Without a strong team behind them, it is difficult for the sportsmen and women. The Team Championship allows the ADAC MX Masters to recognise strong performances by the teams: A prize purse of € 10,000 awaits the top five teams.
Without a strong team in the background, it would be virtually impossible to achieve top results at a race weekend. It helps to have the support of an experienced mechanic when preparing the bike for the races. This allows the rider to focus fully on the race. At the racetrack, a perfectly-prepared bike, maintained now and again by the mechanic, is equally important as the watchful eye of a chassis tuner, who helps to ensure that the tyres have the ideal grip and the rider can perform with as little effort as possible. Good “fuel” for the body, in the form of nutritious food, is another factor in the success of a strong team. The use of reference values in determining the race strategy, executing fast repairs in the pit lane, working together to get the right tyre selection, and many more aspects can also prove pivotal. No wonder the riders always refer to themselves in the “we” form after tasting success. “The improvement in my performance compared to last season shows how important it is to have a good environment,” says Tom Koch. “I rode the same bike as last year – the 450cc KTM – but the results were even better.”
Within a top racing team, young riders have the best possible opportunity to develop by watching experienced riders at work, heading onto the track with them, and picking up valuable tips on picking the right line. It is no coincidence that KTM Kosak Racing Team, with its good youth development system, won the ADAC MX Masters Team Championship in 2021: The team fields riders in all four classes of the ADAC MX Masters. The best race results from each class go towards the overall standings in the Team Championship. The points actually scored in the ADAC MX Masters class are tripled, those in the junior classes are not. The Krettek-Haas-Racing-Team showed last year that this is not the only way to be successful. In Max Nagl (GER), they lined up with just one rider, but still managed to finish fourth in the Team Championship thanks to Nagl’s many race wins. However, the DW Racing Team and its rider Lukas Platt (GER) are proof that a good team need not necessarily be a big one. Platt has claimed several top-five finishes in the last two years with the small but perfectly-formed DW Racing Team on his side.
With a full calendar in 2022, the teams registered for the ADAC MX Masters can look forward to a prize purse of € 10,000, which will be distributed among this year’s top five teams. “We were the best team last year, and that is once again our goal in 2022,” says ambitious team principal Herbert Kosak, who can call on the services of last year’s ADAC MX Masters runner-up, Tom Koch (GER). However, he will face stiff opposition. The KTM Sarholz Racing Team and reigning ADAC MX Masters champion Jordi Tixier (FRA) is just as motivated as the official MX racing team of Honda Deutschland, the KMP Honda Racing Team, who line up with an impressive newcomer in Jorge Zaragozza (ESP). Max Nagl (GER) is once again the only rider flying the flag for the Krettek-Haas-Racing-Team. As well as the established teams from all eight motorcycle manufacturers involved, the new season also features some new teams who are out to prove themselves, including the Schmicker Racing Team. Well-known teams like Raths Motorsport, who have recently been racing in MXGP and EXM, are also back in the ADAC MX Masters Team Championship. The first opportunity to score valuable points is the opening round of the ADAC MX Masters, on 21st/22nd May in Dreetz, in the state of Brandenburg.
