Exciting battles for the championship podium in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. Mads Fredsøe is the 2023 ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 champion. Dani Heitink makes it a title treble with victory in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85.
Mads Fredsøe (DK/STC Sturm Racing) and Dani Heitink (NL/DH-MX) clinched the titles in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 and ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 at the season finale in Dreetz. In the ADAC MX Youngster Cup, the minor places were up for grabs at the sandy circuit in Brandenburg, after Oriol Oliver (E/WZ-Racing) wrapped up the championship last time out.
ADAC MX Youngster Cup: Bidzans triumphs with overall victory The new ADAC MX Youngster Cup champion was making his debut in the ADAC MX Masters class in Dreetz, having already wrapped up the title with races to spare. Edvards Bidzans (LVA/Sixty Seven) took the opportunity to make it onto the top step of the event podium. He made his intentions clear on Saturday with victory in the opening race. Bidzans overtook Mike Gwerder (CH/WZ-Racing), who had led the race since taking the Red Bull Holeshot, with two laps remaining. After finishing fifth in race two on Sunday, second place in a hard-fought third race was sufficient for Bidzans to seal the overall victory. Martin Michelis (EST/Schmicker Racing) took a surprising second place overall in Dreetz. He caught the eye with third place on Saturday, and then went one better with second place in race two on Sunday. In the third race, he had to fight back after the start and eventually crossed the finish line in fourth place. Jens Walvoort (NL/KTM SB Racing) and Gwerder went at it hard in the battle for third place in the table. Gwerder crashed early in race two and had to settle for eleventh place, but Walvoort also recorded his worst result of the weekend, finishing sixth. The decisive third race produced a tense finish, with a leading group of seven riders. Walvoort overtook Bidzans on the final lap to secure the race win. That put him third in the event standings and saw the Dutchman move one point ahead of Gwerder in the championship table. Cato Nickel (D/WZ-Racing) did not have a great weekend, but still managed to end the season in second place behind Oliver in the championship.
“I am super happy with the weekend. I finally started well and came out of the first corner in the top three in all three races. I was also very happy with the way I rode. It feels fantastic to be back on the top step of the podium after such a long time. A good way to end the season,” said a beaming Bidzans at the presentation ceremony.
ADAC MX Junior Cup 125: Ernecker wins, Fredsøe is champion In the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125, Maximilian Werner (D/Fantic Factory Team Maddii) and Vitezslav Marek (CZ/Cermen KTM Racing Team) arrived in Dreetz still with a chance of winning the title, as well as championship leader Fredsøe. However, Maximilian Ernecker (A/AMX Racing), Kasimir Hindersson (FIN/Motovation Motorsports) and Gyan Doensen (NL/WZ-Racing) took the three places on the overall podium. Ernecker followed his first win of the season on Saturday with second place on Sunday, earning himself overall victory in Dreetz. Hindersson won the second race, having come home third in race one. Doensen narrowly missed out on victory on Saturday and finished fifth after an impressive fightback in race two, leaving him third in the event standings. After a good start to race one, Fredsøe then dropped back to seventh place behind his two rivals in the title race Werner, who was fourth, and Marek in sixth place. In the deciding race, Marek came out of the opening lap in third place with Fredsøe sixth, while Werner had to launch a fightback from down in 28th. Werner ploughed through the field but was unable to take full advantage when Fredsøe crashed from fifth to sixth place on the penultimate lap. Marek too slipped back from third to fourth place with two laps remaining. That allowed Fredsøe to successfully defend his lead at the top of the table and saw him crowned champion in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125. Marek ended the season in second place, one point ahead of Werner.
“That was not a good weekend for me, I felt the pressure. However, I am very happy to have won the title. I showed this season that I am capable of winning races and events, and am already looking forward to stepping up to the 250cc bike next year,” said Fredsøe after clinching the title.
ADAC MX Junior Cup 85: Heitink is ADAC MX Junior Cup 85 champion In the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85, Dani Heitink got the job done in race one on Saturday. The junior world champion showed his class with the race win, although Dean Gregoire (NL/Schmicker Racing) did put him under pressure throughout the entire race. That victory meant Heitink wrapped up the title win on Saturday. He then showed how strong he is with another victory in race two on Sunday. Once again it was Gregoire who crossed the finish line in second place, ahead of Áaron Katona (HU/HTS KTM) in third for the second race in succession. In the event standings, Gregoire ended the weekend second behind Heitink, but ahead of Katona. In the championship, however, it was Katona who took second place ahead of the Dutchman.
“That was a good weekend. I really liked the track in Dreetz. It has been a successful year for me, with my title treble in the junior world championship, the Dutch Masters and now the ADAC MX Junior Cup 85. I am already looking forward to next season, when I will switch to the 125cc class,” said a happy Heitink.
