Dave Kooiker takes the lead after winning the ADAC MX Youngster Cup. Maximilian Ernecker celebrates his third overall victory in the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125. KMP-Honda-Racing Team powered by Krettek wins the team classification at Vellahn.
The two junior classes also provided thrilling duels and exciting races at the ADAC MX Masters debut at Vellahn. Dave Kooiker (NL, Schmicker Racing) also took overall victory in the ADAC MX Youngster Cup at Vellahn and now leads the championship. This was the first weekend this season that the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125 featured three races. Maximilian Ernecker (A, F4E Gasgas Junior Racing) was once again the overall winner and extended his lead at the top of the table.
ADAC MX Youngster Cup: Dave Kooiker claims second overall victory of the season
Dave Kooiker fell back to third place after the Red Bull Holeshot in the first race at Vellahn, behind Maxime Grau (F/WZ-Racing KTM), who won his first race of the season, and Nico Greutmann (CH/Cat Moto Bauerschmidt Husqvarna). On Sunday, Kooiker felt more comfortable and took the race victory ahead of Grau and Rasmus Pedersen (S/Rhino Racing Team). In the third race, Grau led from the first lap until he missed a hole on the last lap and rolled over. Greutmann inherited the race victory ahead of Kooiker and Peter König (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team). Grau crossed the finish line in fourth place. Kooiker was the overall winner for the second time in a row, ahead of Greutmann and Grau, who took the other positions with the same number of points. Bradley Mesters (NL/Kosak Racing Team) lost the lead in the standings after a disastrous weekend, during which he was ill and involved in a pile-up at the start of the last race. Kooiker now has the red plate of the championship leader ahead of Greutmann, Pedersen, Mesters and Bence Pergel (HU/HTS KTM).
‘I'm very happy with the overall victory and the lead in the standings. It was a difficult weekend on a very demanding track. I found it hard to find my rhythm, but I made the best of it,’ said Kooiker at the award ceremony.
ADAC MX Junior Cup 125: Ernecker's winning streak ended
Maximilian Ernecker's clean record lasted until the third race of the ADAC MX Junior Cup 125. The Austrian was still unbeaten after wins in the first two races this season. But in the third race, Zoltan Ördög (RU/Top Cross TCS Racing Team) managed to take a start-finish victory after the Red Bull Holeshot. A second place for Ernecker was still enough for him to take his third overall victory of the season. Dex Kooiker (NL/De Baets Yamaha) started the weekend with third place behind Mick Kennedy (NL/Grip Messer Racing Team). With second place behind Aron Katona (HU/HTS KTM) in the second race and fourth place in the final race, Kooiker took second place on the overall podium in Vellahn. Raivo Laicans (LV/Sturm STC Racing) improved continuously throughout the event and, with third place in the third race, climbed the last step of the overall podium ahead of Katona, who had the same number of points. In the standings, Ernecker extended his lead to 47 points ahead of Katona, Laicans, Tomass Saicans (LV/MX Magnum) and Kennedy.
‘I really liked the track here in Vellahn. On Saturday, I managed to take the Red Bull holeshot and quickly found my own rhythm. On Sunday, I had to fight a little harder for my second victory, and in the third race, the other guys rode very well, so I couldn't win. But I'm still very satisfied and happy with the overall victory and the way the season has gone so far,’ beamed Ernecker.
Team ranking: the KMP-Honda-Racing Team powered by Krettek comes out on top
