Max Nagl leads at the halfway point of the season

Max Nagl scores maximum points on his way to win number four of the season. Jordi Tixier continues his rise with second place overall in Bielstein. Third place sees Adam climb to second in the championship.

Max Nagl (D/KMP-Honda-Racing powered by Krettek) once again took three race wins on his way to victory at round four of the ADAC MX Masters in Bielstein. The championship leader extended his lead at the top of the table to 90 points at the iconic track. Team-mate Jordi Tixier (F/KMP-Honda-Racing powered by Krettek) ended the weekend in second place, ahead of Adam Sterry (GB/Schmicker Racing), who leapfrogs ahead of Maximilian Spies (D/Kosak Racing Team) and into second place in the overall standings.

Max Nagl makes it four from four

Three race wins in Bielstein, two of which he led from start to finish, and overall victory at all four of this season’s events so far: Max Nagl’s rivals were again unable to stop him at the “Waldkurs” track. Only Adam Sterry, the sole rider to win a race against Nagl this year, looked in with a chance of keeping the defending champion in check after taking the Red Bull Holeshot in race two. However, Nagl soon moved to the front of the field on lap two and had opened a lead of over 15 seconds be the end of the race. Nagl now has a 90-point cushion at the top of the table – a big enough advantage that he could actually miss an event without losing his lead in the championship.

“I am on good form at the moment. I am healthy and have found a set-up that I trust on my Honda. However, my winning run also comes with a certain amount of pressure, as a successful run like this generally comes to an end at some point. I struggled to focus a little on Saturday, but Sunday went very well for me. The battle with Adam in race two was a lot of fun. It was hard, but fair. A big compliment also goes to the club, who prepared the track very well for Sunday,” said a beaming Nagl at the presentation ceremony.

Jordi Tixier on the upswing

Jordi Tixier’s form is improving all the time, as he showed with second place overall in Bielstein. The Frenchman made good starts and finished runner-up in races one and three. In the second race, however, he had to battle his way through from the front of the pack and eventually crossed the finish line in seventh place. In race three, he overtook Dennis Ullrich (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team) on the final lap to take second place. After finishing fifth in race two, Ullrich came home third to claim his first race podium of the season. Tixier moved up two positions into fourth place in the table.

“I already felt good on the Saturday, and felt good enough to challenge for the win. However, a few little mistakes prevented that from happening today, and a lot of riders were very fast this weekend. I am pleased I was able to do my bit and make it a one-two for the team,” said Tixier.

Adam Sterry surprises himself with a podium in Bielstein

Adam Sterry kicked off his weekend with fourth place in the opening race behind Jakub Teresak (CZ/Enduro Koch Racing) and ahead of Noah Ludwig (D/KTM Sarholz Racing Team). Race two saw him take an excellent second place behind Nagl, finishing ahead of Jere Haavisto (FI/Schmicker Racing) and Cornelius Töndel (NO/Schmicker Racing). He spent the whole of race three lapping in fifth place and eventually crossed the finish line behind Haavisto. Third place overall in Bielstein was sufficient for Sterry to climb from fourth to second place in the championship.

“I have not been able to train on my bike since the last race in Vellahn. Training is important, but sometimes a break is even more valuable. Plus, the surface in Bielstein did not suit me. With that in mind, I am happy to be on the podium here,” said Sterry.
