Fastest time for Rinaldi Racing in first practice at the Lausitzring

Oscar Tunjo topped the timing sheet in the first free practice session for the Prototype Cup Germany at the Lausitzring. All three manufacturers ended the session in the top three, promising plenty of excitement in the two races.

The Prototype Cup Germany enters the second half of the 2022 season at the Lausitzring. The first free practice session at the 3.478-kilometre track in Brandenburg took place at lunchtime on Friday. Oscar Tunjo (26/COL, Rinaldi Racing), in a Duqueine D08, was the fastest man in the 45-minute session with a time of 1:20.910 minutes. “It is very nice to start the race weekend with a fastest time. My lap was very good, and free of traffic,” said Tunjo, who shares the wheel with Mateo Villagomez (20/ECU). “This is my first time driving at the Lausitzring. It is a great track, and I particularly like the first sector.”

South Americans Tunjo and Villagomez both joined the Prototype Cup Germany at the latest event at the Nürburgring, where they immediately established themselves among the leading group. The plan is now to take the next step at the Lausitzring. “We want to improve again this weekend, compared to the Nürburgring. We finished on the podium there. Perhaps we can even put ourselves in contention to win here,” said a highly motivated Tunjo.

Championship leaders Berkay Besler (23/TUR) and Marvin Dienst (25/Lampertheim, both Toksport WRT) were second fastest in a Ligier JS P320, 0.33 seconds behind Tunjo. Dienst will get plenty of driving time this weekend, as he lines up in both the Prototype Cup Germany and the ADAC GT Masters.

Third place went to Axcil Jefferies (28/ZWE) and Maximilian Hackländer (32/Rüthen, both Konrad Motorsport). The Ginetta G61-LT-P3 duo ended FP1 0.498 seconds off the leading time. As such, all three manufacturers were represented in the top three. With such an evenly-matched field, there promises to be some exciting racing on Saturday and Sunday. The two Duqueine of Leonard Weiss (24/Monschau) and Torsten Kratz (51/Mönchengladbach, both WTM Racing), and Matthias Lüthen (41/Hamburg) and Donar Munding (20/Stuttgart, both Mühlner Motorsport) rounded off the top five.
