Ginetta goes fastest in FP2 at the Nürburgring

Axcil Jefferies came out on top in the second free practice session of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring. This is the first time a Ginetta has set the fastest time in this series. The field is evenly matched, with cars from all three manufacturers in the top three.

The second free practice session of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring ended with a fastest time for the Ginetta G61-LT-P3 of Konrad Motorsport. Axcil Jefferies (28/ZWE) lapped the track in 1:21.468 minutes, putting him top of the timing sheet. “We still feel very new to the LMP3 class. However, we are improving and learning all the time. We are moving in the right direction,” said Jefferies, who shares the cockpit with Maximilian Hackländer (32/Rüthen). “On the whole, the lap felt really good. However, there is certainly still room for improvement, as nobody really pushes themselves to the limit in free practice.” Jefferies’ time was not, however, the fastest of the day. That honour went to Mads Siljehaug (26/NOR, Reiter Engineering) with a time of 1:21.178 minutes in FP1.

Jefferies’ team-mate Hackländer joined the Prototype Cup Germany shortly before the race weekend. The rapid German is particularly well known from the ADAC GT Masters. “I have only driven GT3 cars before. As such, LMP3 is quite a transition. For example, the whole car is much stiffer and there is no ABS,” he said, comparing the two disciplines. “I must first get used to everything a little. However, it is great fun.”

Second place in the session went to the Duqueine D08 of Oscar Tunjo (26/COL) and Mateo Villagomez (19/ECU, both Rinaldi Racing) with a deficit of 0.221 seconds. Berkay Besler (23/TUR) and Marvin Dienst (25/Lampertheim, both Toksport WRT) were third fastest. The championship leaders were 0.446 seconds slower than Jefferies. As such, the top three positions were occupied by cars from all three manufacturers. The evenly-matched field promises to provide plenty of excitement in the two races on Saturday and Sunday.

Matthias Lüthen (41/Hamburg) and Donar Munding (20/Stuttgart, both Mühlner Motorsport) in a Duqueine and Klaus Abbelen (61/Barweiler, Frikadelli Racing) in a Ligier completed the top five in FP2.

Saturday kicks off with the warm-up at 09:30, before the first qualifying session for the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring at 12:45. Race one gets underway at 15:45. The race action will be streamed live and free of charge at youtube.com/adac, adac.de/motorsport and youtube.com/24hseries.
