Donar Munding clocked the best time in FP2 of the Prototype Cup Germany at the DEKRA Lausitzring. Good pace from the Duqueine cars.
The first day of practice is over in the Prototype Cup Germany at the DEKRA Lausitzring. Donar Munding (20/Stuttgart, Mühlner Motorsport) was unbeatable in the second free practice on Friday afternoon. The young driver completed his lap of the 3.478-kilometre track in 1:21.458 minutes at the wheel of a Duqueine D08. “I am obviously very pleased with the fastest time. It shows that the work you have put in is bearing fruit and working. That gives you a good feeling going into qualifying,” said a beaming Munding, who shares the cockpit with Matthias Lüthen (41/Hamburg) for Mühlner Motorsport. “The Lausitzring is really challenging at first, particularly with the bumps. However, as soon as you have found a rhythm, it is not so tough.”
Munding did not manage to record the fastest time of the day. That honour went to Rinaldi Racing driver Oscar Tunjo (26/COL), whose time of 1:20.901 minutes in FP1 was roughly half a second faster.
Second place in free practice two went to the Duqueine of Gary Hauser (30/LUX) and Sebastian von Gartzen (29/Butzbach, both Racing Experience). Hauser’s fastest lap of 1:21.593 minutes was 0.135 seconds off the leading time. He was followed in third place by fellow Duqueine drivers Leonard Weiss (24/Monschau) and Torsten Kratz (51/Mönchengladbach, both WTM Racing) with a deficit of 0.256 seconds. They rounded off a strong result for the prototypes from French manufacturer Duqueine.
However, cars from the other two manufacturers also established themselves among the top group in FP2. Fourth place went to Axcil Jefferies (28/ZWE) and Maximilian Hackländer (32/Rüthen, both Konrad Motorsport) in a Ginetta G61-LT-P3. Rounding off the top five were Berkay Besler (23/TUR) and Marvin Dienst (25/Lampertheim, both Toksport WRT) in their Ligier JS P320.
The action in the Prototype Cup Germany now comes thick and fast at the Lausitzring. Qualifying is next up, at 08:15 on Saturday morning. The lights then go green for race one at 15:35.
