The Reiter Engineering driver was the fastest man in the opening session of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring. A close field promises plenty of excitement for the race weekend.
Mads Siljehaug (26/NOR, Reiter Engineering) was unbeatable in the first free practice session of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring. The Norwegian took exactly 1:21.178 minutes for the fastest lap of the 3.269 kilometre in his Ligier JS P320. “It is obviously nice to start a race weekend with the fastest time,” said Siljehaug, who shares the car with Freddie Hunt (35/GBR). “However, the session was primarily about familiarising ourselves with the track and adapting our set-up. We will now be looking to improve our times in FP2.”
Team-mate Hunt is looking forward to making his debut in the championship, which is organised by the ADAC and Creventic. “It has been a long time since I last drove at the Nürburgring. I have never raced on the sprint circuit,” said the son of 1976 Formula 1 world champion James Hunt. “The first session has been really good so far. Mads and I are working superbly as a pair. We are optimistic.”
Second place, 0.025 seconds slower, went to Oscar Tunjo (26/COL) and Mateo Villagomez (19/ECU, both Rinaldi Racing) in a Duqueine D08. They were followed by the Ligier of championship leaders Berkay Besler (23/TUR) and Marvin Dienst (25/Lampertheim, both Toksport WRT) 0.474 seconds back. The two Duqueine cars of Gary Hauser (30/LUX) and Sebastian von Gartzen (29/Butzbach, both Racing Experience) and Matthias Lüthen (41/Hamburg) and Donar Munding (20/Stuttgart, both Mühlner Motorsport) completed the top five.
The second free practice in the Prototype Cup Germany follows on Friday. Saturday and Sunday then each feature a race of roughly one hour. “Our goal is to finish on the podium. That is why we have come to the Nürburgring. However, the opposition is strong. Let’s wait and see how the race weekend develops,” said Siljehaug.
