Duqueine ahead of Ginetta in second session in Hockenheim

Oscar Tunjo from JvO Racing by Downforce Motorsports produces the fastest lap of session two of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Hockenheimring. Danny Soufi also impresses for Konrad Motorsport.

Rain dominated Friday’s action in the Prototype Cup Germany at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg. As in the afternoon’s opening session, wet tyres were again required in the second practice session in the early evening. Oscar Tunjo (27/COL) from rookie team JvO Racing by Downforce Motorsports coped best with the tricky conditions, setting the fastest time of 1:52.362 minutes.

“The track was obviously a bit slippery in places,” said Tunjo, who shares the Duqueine D08 with Julien Apothéloz (22/CHE). “I decided to just go for it on one of my laps – and the result was the fastest time. We also used the session to prepare for the race. However, it is forecast to be dry tomorrow, so we will all be starting from scratch again.”

Second fastest was Danny Soufi (19/USA). The Konrad Motorsport driver clocked a time of 1:52.596 minutes in his Ginetta G61-LT-P3. “The car feels really good and has been superbly prepared again by the team. I think we will go really well in the races. My goal is definitely to win a race, and to get pole position in my qualifying,” says a determined Soufi, who shares the car with fellow American Nicholas Silva (26).

Third place, with a time of 1:52.725 minutes, went to the Duqueine of Matthias Lüthen (42/Hamburg) and Laurents Hörr (25/Gerlingen, both Koiranen Kemppi Motorsport), ahead of Max van der Snel (19/NLD) and Mark van der Snel (52/NLD, both More Motorsport by Reiter) in the fastest Ligier JS P320. The second Ginetta, that of Sebastian von Gartzen (30/Butzbach) and Maximilian Hackländer (33/Rüthen, both Konrad Motorsport), completed the top five. The best time of the day, 1:51.070 minutes, came in the opening session courtesy of Gary Hauser (31/LUX, Racing Experience) in another Duqueine.

The first qualifying session for the Prototype Cup Germany is scheduled for 09:35 on Saturday morning. The opening race of the season in the series organised by the ADAC and Creventic gets underway at 14:05.
