Gary Hauser goes fastest in Friday’s opening session

The Racing Experience driver proved to be unbeatable in the first session of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg. Series newcomer Laurents Hörr was second fastest.

Season two of the Prototype Cup Germany kicks off at the Hockenheimring this weekend. Before the series, which is organised by the ADAC and Creventic, gets down to the serious business of two qualifying sessions and two races on Saturday and Sunday, the drivers first have two practice sessions to prepare on Friday. The first of these two sessions has already taken place: on a damp track at the circuit near Heidelberg, Gary Hauser (31/LUX, Racing Experience) set the fastest time of 1:51.070 minutes in his Duqueine D08.

“The winter break is finally over and the new Prototype Cup Germany season is here,” said a beaming Hauser, who shares the Duqueine with Markus Pommer (32/Untereisesheim). “Everything has gone to plan so far. I hope it continues that way. The car was very good to drive in the rain. All in all, we are very happy. We want to challenge for the podium this weekend.”

Just 0.060 seconds slower, the second fastest time of the session went to fellow Duqueine drivers Matthias Lüthen (42/Hamburg) and Laurents Hörr (25/Gerlingen, both Koiranen Kemppi Motorsport). “The last time I drove in Hockenheim in the rain was in 2016 – and that wasn’t in an LMP3 car. Despite this, I coped very well with the conditions and set a decent time,” said Hörr, who is making his debut in the Prototype Cup Germany this weekend. “We are definitely very happy with the session and are confident going into the two races. It will definitely be interesting.”

Third fastest were Oscar Tunjo (27/COL) and Julien Apothéloz (22/CHE, both JvO Racing by Downforce Motorsports) in another Duqueine, who ended the session 0.324 seconds back, followed by the Ginetta G61-LT-P3 of Danny Soufi (19/USA) and Nicholas Silva (26/USA, both Konrad Motorsport), who trailed Hauser by 0.430 seconds. Rounding off the top five were Konrad team-mates Sebastian von Gartzen (30/Butzbach) and Maximilian Hackländer (33/Rüthen).
