Four of the six rounds in the 2023 Prototype Cup Germany, which is organised by the ADAC and Creventic, have already been completed – and two thirds of the way into the season, it is Gary Hauser (31/LUX) and Markus Pommer (32/Untereisesheim, both Racing Experience) who are sitting pretty at the top of the table. The Duqueine D08 duo holds a 31-point lead over their closest rivals. “Ahead of the season, we were obviously hoping to be in contention for the title. However, we did not expect the season to go this well,” says a beaming Gary Hauser, who just so happens to be the son of team principal Christian Hauser.

Hauser/Pommer have really made their mark on the season so far. And the figures back that up: the pairing from Luxembourg and Germany have celebrated on the podium after six of the eight races. “Our strength is definitely our experience. Gary and I have been involved in motorsport for a long time. We are also both fast and have consistently been among the front-runners this year. However, the team is also doing an excellent job. The car is always superbly prepared. We have not had a single technical retirement yet,” says Pommer, who also has six victories to his name in the ADAC GT Masters. “Plus, we have both made hardly any mistakes and know exactly when we need to take a risk and when it makes more sense to hold back,” Hauser adds.

The highlights of the season so far have been the two victories – in the Sunday race in Hockenheim and race one at the Norisring. “I look back particularly fondly on the win in Hockenheim. Gary did a great job to hand the car over to me in second place, and I overtook the leader right at the very end of the race. It was a nice and hard-fought victory,” says Pommer, for whom the success at the track near Heidelberg also came at his home circuit.

Two race weekends remain in this year’s Prototype Cup Germany: at TT Circuit Assen at the start of September and at the Nürburgring in October. “I like both circuits, but I am looking forward to Assen a little more,” says Hauser. “Assen is not only fast and flowing, but also great fun to drive. Furthermore, I believe we will have a really strong package there, as the layout is perfectly suited to our set-up.”

Given the way the season has panned out so far, Hauser and Pommer now have their sights set on a definite goal. “The title is now clearly our goal for the season. We have established a nice big lead, and now want to finish the job. Ever since Hockenheim, we have not been outside the top two in the table, and we feel in a good place. We obviously need to avoid making any mistakes between now and the end of the season. If we manage that, it looks really good with regard to the championship,” says a determined Pommer.

“I agree with Markus. We want to win the title now. However, it is also important to take it one race at a time and remain focussed,” Hauser adds. “I also have one eye on the Team competition, in which we currently lie second, 14 points off the lead. We have a realistic chance of becoming champions there too. Should we actually win both titles, it would be an absolute dream season.”
