The JvO Racing by Downforce Motorsports driver sets the fastest time in qualifying for ace one of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Hockenheimring. Fellow Duqueine race Laurents Hörr starts alongside him on the front row.
Qualifying for race one of the opening round of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Hockenheimring proved to be a thrilling affair. With track conditions dry for the first time, it was Oscar Tunjo (27/COL, JvO Racing by Downforce Motorsports) who ultimately clocked the fastest time. The Duqueine D08 driver took 1:34.638 minutes to complete his flying lap of the 4.574-kilometre circuit.
“We are obviously very happy to start the season with pole position,” said a beaming Tunjo, who shares the car with Julien Apothéloz (22/CHE). “The team gave me a super car and the circuit was in good condition. I think the race is going to be really close. When you start from pole position, your goal is obviously to win the race.”
Starting next to him on the front row will be Laurents Hörr (25/Gerlingen, Koiranen Kemppi Motorsport), who qualified just 0.148 seconds slower in another Duqueine. “The front row of the grid is okay – pole would have been even better,” said Hörr, who lines up together with Matthias Lüthen (42/Hamburg). “We can be optimistic going into the race. We are well prepared and want to finish one place higher if possible.”
0.380 seconds behind the pole-sitter was the Duqueine of Gary Hauser (31/LUX) and Markus Pommer (32/Untereisesheim, both Racing Experience) in third place. Pommer, making his debut in the series, was at the wheel for qualifying. The car of fellow Duqueine men Gustavo Kyrila (29/BRA) and Nico Göhler (19/Grasleben, both BWT Mücke Motorsport) missed out on pole by 0.845 and ended the qualifying session in fourth place. Rounding out the top five was the Ligier JS P320 of Max van der Snel (19/NLD) and Mark van der Snel (52/NLD, both More Motorsport by Reiter). Race one gets underway at 14:05 on Saturday.
