Prototype Cup·1.9.2023

Laurents Hörr clocks the day’s fastest time in Assen

Laurents Hörr, at the wheel of a Duqueine D08 for Koiranen Kemppi Motorsport, set the fastest lap time in free practice two at the penultimate race weekend of the 2023 Prototype Cup Germany, which is taking place at TT Circuit Assen. Fellow Duqueine drivers and championship leaders Hauser and Pommer were second fastest.

The first day of practice in the Prototype Cup Germany at TT Circuit Assen (Netherlands) is in the books, with Koiranen Kemppi Motorsport driver Laurents Hörr (25/Gerlingen) clocking the fastest lap time. The German’s Duqueine D08 stopped the clock at 1:31.663 minutes at the end of his 4.555-kilometre lap in the second free practice session. “It is obviously always nice to be in front,” said a happy Hörr, who shares the cockpit with Matthias Lüthen (42/Hamburg). “It definitely gives you a good feeling going into the rest of the weekend.”

“My fastest lap was free of traffic, which meant it was also very enjoyable. I am already excited to see what might be possible in qualifying,” Hörr added. “I basically gave a lot of track time to my team-mate Matthias on Friday. I really like the track in Assen – the second and third sectors in particular are excellent.”

Second place in FP2 went to fellow Duqueine drivers Gary Hauser (31/LUX) and Markus Pommer (32/Untereisesheim, both Racing Experience), who were just 0.041 seconds slower. Hauser and Pommer are currently the championship leaders in the Prototype Cup Germany, which is organised by the ADAC and Creventic. The duo could theoretically be crowned 2023 champions with races to spare in Assen.

0.499 seconds off Hörr’s time were Valentino Catalano (17/Westheim) and Robin Rogalski (23/POL, both DKR Engineering) in third. Fourth place went to Oscar Tunjo (27/COL) and Julien Apothéloz (22/CHE, both Van Ommen Racing by DataLab), who are currently second in the championship but ended the session 0.503 seconds behind Hörr. This meant the top four spots on the timings sheet were occupied by four Duqueine D08 cars. Rounding out the top five were Sebastian von Gartzen (30/Butzbach) and Maximilian Hackländer (33/Rüthen, both Konrad Motorsport) in a Ginetta G61-LT-P3.

Saturday and Sunday of the Prototype Cup Germany event at TT Circuit Assen both feature a qualifying and a one-hour race. The action will be broadcast via a free livestream on the ADAC Motorsport channel youtube.com/adacmotorsports.
