The 2023 season in the Prototype Cup Germany will again feature Matthias Lüthen (Hamburg) stepping on the gas. The 42-year-old is competing for the Koiranen Kemppi Motorsport team, driving a Duqueine D08. His team-mate will be LMP specialist Laurents Hörr (25/Gerlingen), who is making his debut in the series. “Of course, we are delighted to have two experienced and competitive drivers in our team,” explain team principals Kimmo Kemppi and Marko Koiranen. “The situation could not be better. Both have the potential to claim podiums and wins.”

Racing for the Finnish team is something very special for Lüthen. “I am very pleased and grateful to have the opportunity to drive with such a well-known team in the Prototype Cup Germany. Koiranen Kemppi Motorsport is a really big name and has already chalked up major successes in international motor racing.”

For his part, Lüthen was able to demonstrate his skills in the debut season for the race series organised by the ADAC and Creventic. Victory in the Sunday race on the Lausitzring was the highlight. He also claimed third place in the drivers’ championship and the title in the Trophy standings.

He is aiming to top that in 2023. “My aim is very clearly to defend the Trophy title – and we also want to be challenging for the overall championship,” clarifies Lüthen. “We are entering the Prototype Cup Germany to win it.”

The driver from Hamburg has known his new team-mate Laurents Hörr for ten years. “We have raced karts together a few times. And it was actually Laurents who set up the contact with Koiranen Kemppi Motorsport“, he explains. “He is a great guy and we get on really well on a personal level. I can learn so much from him in terms of driving. He is ultra-successful and just so fast.”

The Duqueine D08 that Lüthen/Hörr will be driving in 2023 is a completely new chassis. It is scheduled to be delivered to Koiranen Kemppi Motorsport in the next few weeks. “This means that we have not yet been able to do any testing together,” continues Lüthen. “However, we have some test drives planned ahead of the season-opener in the Prototype Cup Germany in April at the Hockenheimring. We are working out the dates for that at the moment.”
