Nico Göhler secures pole position on Sunday

The BWT Mücke Motorsport driver won qualifying for ace two of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring. Four Duqueine in the top five.

That was exciting! Qualifying for Sunday’s race in the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring was a really close affair. Only in the dying seconds of the 15-minute session were the final grid positions decided. Nico Göhler (20/Grasleben, BWT Mücke Motorsport) clinched pole position on his final flying lap in the Duqueine D08.

“That is actually the first pole position of my career. I am obviously thrilled with it,” celebrated Göhler, who shares the cockpit with Gustavo Kyrila (29/BRA) and clocked a winning time of 1:50.479 minutes. “The car was excellent. However, it was still not a perfect lap. I am sure it could have been even better. The conditions were challenging. When we headed out, the track temperature was only three degrees, which meant you really had to work hard to get enough heat into the tyres.”

Just 0.087 seconds slower in second place was fellow Duqueine racer Xavier Lloveras (23/ESP, Mühlner Motorsport). Third place went to Jacob Erlbacher (23/Böblingen, Gebhardt Motorsport) in another Duqueine. Like Lloveras, he starts alone at the Nürburgring. Erlbacher’s time was 0.454 seconds off that set by Göhler.

In fourth place was another man racing alone this weekend. Nigel Moore (31/GBR, Aust Motorsport) was 0.662 seconds back in his Ligier JS P320. Rounding out the top five was the Duqueine of Oscar Tunjo (27/COL) and Julien Apothéloz (22/CHE, both Van Ommen Racing by DataLab), with Apothéloz at the wheel for qualifying.

Sunday’s race in the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring gets underway at 15:15 and will be streamed live and free of charge at youtube.com/adacmotorsports. “We are very motivated going into the race,” said pole-sitter Göhler. “When you start from the front, you obviously want to go on and win. It will need to be a flawless race. We also have one eye on the overall standings, in which we could still finish third.”
