Former ADAC GT Masters driver Markus Pommer was again the fastest man in the second free practice for the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring. Four Duqueine D08 in the top five.
Markus Pommer (32/Untereisesheim) was the dominant driver on the first day of practice for the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring. After setting the fastest time in FP1, the Racing Experience driver repeated the feat in the second session of the day. At the wheel of a Duqueine D08, he took 1:51.917 minutes to complete a lap of the 5.137-kilometre circuit in the Eifel Mountains. “It is obviously a great basis to start the race weekend out in front. The car feels really good. I hope we can take this momentum into the rest of the weekend,” said Pommer, who lines up alongside Gary Hauser (31/LUX).
“I had no traffic on my fastest lap,” Pommer continued. “However, I had done a number of flying laps one after another. If I had put all my best sectors together in one lap, it would have been even quicker.” Pommer’s time from the second free practice was roughly 1.3 seconds faster than the one he set in the opening session. “There is a simple explanation,” said Pommer. “We were on new tyres and the track had a lot more grip in the afternoon.”
Pommer and Hauser wrapped up the Drivers title in the Prototype Cup Germany at the most recent race weekend in Assen. “We want to end the championship here in the same way we have raced all year – challenging at the front of the field,” said Hauser. “Friday has been a very good start. Markus set two fastest times and I was relatively close to him. That gives us a lot of confidence.”
Second place in FP2 went to Nigel Moore (31/GBR) in the Ligier JS P320 of Aust Motorsport, just 0.038 seconds off the top time. Mühlner Motorsport’s Xavier Lloveras (23) was third in a Duqueine. The Spaniard was 0.533 seconds slower than Pommer. In fourth place, 0.700 seconds back, were fellow Duqueine drivers Gustavo Kyrila (29/BRA) and Nico Göhler (20/Grasleben, both BWT Mücke Motorsport). Jacob Erlbacher (23/Böblingen, Gebhardt Motorsport) rounded out the top five in another Duqueine.
Saturday and Sunday each feature one qualifying session and a race in the Prototype Cup Germany. As usual, the action at the Nürburgring will be streamed live on the ADAC motorsport channel: youtube.com/adacmotorsports.
