An event of firsts in the Prototype Cup Germany: this weekend (26th to 28th May), Motorsport Arena Oschersleben will host two races for the first time, while the Prototype Cup Germany also makes its first appearance on the support programme for the DTM. Markus Pommer (32/Untereisesheim) / Gary Hauser (31/LUX, both Racing Experience) top the Drivers’ Championship after two races and are out to defend their lead at the racetrack near Magdeburg. “We were first and second at the season-opener in Hockenheim and would now like a repeat of that result,” said Pommer. However, they cannot afford to rest on their laurels, as Julien Apothéloz (22/CHE) and Oscar Tunjo (27/COL, both van ommen racing by DataLab) are hot on their heels, while the young pairing of Robin Rogalski (22/POL) and Valentino Catalano (17/Westheim, both DKR Engineering) is also poised to pounce should the two leaders make a mistake. Races three and four of this season’s Prototype Cup Germany will be streamed live and free at adac.de/motorsport and youtube.com/adacmotorsports.

The Prototype Cup Germany, which is organised by the ADAC and Creventic, enjoyed an exciting start to its second season at the end of April. As well as Tunjo and Apothéloz, Pommer and Hauser also ensured their names went down in the winners list. The duo from Luxembourg-based team Racing Experience emerged victorious after a close battle with Rogalski and Catalano. “I knew that Racing Experience did a very good job, and I had a very good feeling after my first test. However, to be honest, I did not expect to win at the opening round,” said Pommer, who made his Prototype Cup Germany debut in Hockenheim. To give him every chance of celebrating similarly good results in Oschersleben, he and team-mate Hauser both attended the two-day test for the Prototype Cup Germany, which took place at the same venue just two and a half weeks before the race weekend. “I believe that test was important for us. Gary and I were able to improve our driving and we gathered a lot of data.”

Gustavo Kiryla (29/BRA) und Nico Göhler (20/Grasleben, both BWT Mücke Motorsport) travel to Oschersleben in fourth place in the overall standings. This outing is particularly special for Göhler, as the LMP3 rookie lives just 50 kilometres from the Motorsport Arena. “As a kid, I used to come here often, so I somehow feel connected to the circuit – even though I have only driven there on one Formula 4 weekend so far.” From a sporting perspective, it will be like any race weekend for him. However, he will notice the difference away from the car. “I have invited about ten guests from my family and friendship groups. They will also be with me in the garage. However, I am sure that many more friends will make the trip and cheer me on at the circuit.”

Göhler made the switch to the Prototype Cup Germany from a background of junior Formula racing. However, by his own account, he has already adapted well to the LMP3 racer. “I actually believe that, were I now to get back in a Formula car, I would have to adapt to that first.” The fact that he has arrived on the prototype scene was underlined by his performance in Hockenheim, where he and team-mate Kiryla finished fourth and fifth. “I am always a bit wary about setting goals, but, after such a good start to the season, a podium at my home event would be great.”

A total of 15 LMP3 prototypes from manufacturers Duqueine, Ligier and Ginetta line up in Oschersleben. Spaniard Xavier Lloveras (23/ESP) is new to the field. He takes the place of Lucas Mauron (24/CHE) at van ommen racing by DataLab. The Swiss, in turn, will now share the BHK Motorsport Ligier with his compatriot Elia Sperandio (17/CHE).
